Treadwear Grades
UTQG Treadwear Grades are based on actual road use in which the test tire is run in a vehicle convoy along with standardized Course Monitoring Tires. The vehicle repeatedly runs a prescribed 400-mile test loop in West Texas for a total of 7,200 miles. The vehicle can have its alignment set, air pressure checked and tires rotated every 800 miles. The test tire's and the Monitoring Tire's wear are measured during and at the conclusion of the test. The tire manufacturers then assign a Treadwear Grade based on the observed wear rates. The Course Monitoring Tire is assigned a grade and the test tire receives a grade indicating its relative treadwear. A grade of 100 would indicate that the tire tread would last as long as the test tire, 200 would indicate the tread would last twice as long, 300 would indicate three times as long, etc.
The problem with UTQG Treadwear Grades is that they are open to some interpretation on the part of the tire manufacturer because they are assigned after the tire has only experienced a little treadwear as it runs the 7,200 miles. This means that the tire manufacturers need to extrapolate their raw wear data when they are assigning Treadwear Grades, and that their grades can to some extent reflect how conservative or optimistic their marketing department is. Typically, comparing the Treadwear Grades of tire lines within a single brand is somewhat helpful, while attempting to compare the grades between different brands is not as helpful.
In simpler terms, the lower the number = softer the tread composition = the quicker they were out.

Pilot Sport VS Pilot Primacy
Pilot Sport (PS2) is a Max Performance Summer tire member of the Michelin Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) on some of the world's most prestigious sports cars and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport PS2 combines world-class dry road traction, handling and cornering; tread wear is 220.
Pilot Primacy is a Grand Touring Summer tire that was developed to meet the needs of sporty luxury coupe and sedan drivers who want comfort and tread life along with performance. The Pilot Primacy also focuses on enhancing wet weather traction and hydroplaning resistance; tread wear is 240.[/QUOTE]
My new GS350 has the 18" Pilot Primacy tires. They seem to handle very well, but I find them quite noisy. The only noise source that makes it into the car is the tire noise. Never hear the engine or wind noise. I presume the PS2 handle better, how does the noise compare? I am used to only getting 15,000 miles on a set of tires. In fact I had a pair of Yokahama's on the back of my old Q45 that only got 3000 miles !!! Thanks.

Thx tommie and stevie. Learned a lot there.
From what I have read so far the Primacies are the best tire. Expensive though. If you want to save a little, the PS2's are probably the way to go.
Just my two cents.

ive heard a lot of horror stories regarding the dunlop run flats. i have 10,100 on my car and there is still plenty of rubber with even tread wear. aside from the ever so slight road noise i really dont have any complaints. In fact if they do last me to the 18,000 to 20,000 miles i will probably get another set. I will be cautious over the next 10,000 miles, but my experience thus far has not been bad. I like the fact that i dont need a spare and if there is a problem i dont have to worry about getting hit by another car while changing a flat.
They're yours for $400.
