The GS looks awesome. Coupes are for women. Thats my opinion =)

As a long time lexus and toyota owner I will tell you that these cars are great and on a whole mechanically sound. I've driven all of them to at least 150k+ without anything catastrophic happening. Fluids, belts, and brake pads are the only thing I have done to any of my cars.

This is not a nissan where you buy a car and have to worry about tire feathering, and a transmission that starts to grind 20k miles later. I personally have only strayed once from the brand and picked up a 98 Eclipse Spyder, what a POS, the transmission started slipping in less than 1500 miles of me owning the car. The 3rd Gen GS is a nice car, if you want something to roll around town in style thats a bit more mature than a Z, its a great choice. DO IT

Default GS350, with some 350Z comments...

PROS:
--Lexus reliability is great. Although the GS is not the best example in the Lexus lineup, it definately is superior to most (if not all) other luxury sedans out there.
--Great fuel economy for a 303 hp monster.
--One of the smoothest, buttery trannies on the road.
--Easy to use Nav system.
--The BEST car audio system if you get Mark Levinson.
--Great technology and luxury all around. Trumps anything on the 350Z.
--Insurance should be cheaper for the GS compared to the 350Z (coupes are always more expensive than sedans, when it's similar in power and price).

CONS:
--Has gotten a bit pricey, with less price difference compared to European competitors.
--Simple and clean lines sometimes translate to boring and uninspired design...
--Will not handle as great as the 350Z, but it will handle quite well for a sedan.
--No iPod port. Satellite radio options are expensive.
--More difficult to modify compared to the 350Z.
--The GS tries to be as sporty as the IS, and also tries to be luxurious as the LS. Although it doesn't succeed, it independently still stands out as a great compromise between the two.

thanks for the feedbacks. i went to look at at ls460 but it was a bit out of my price range and i thought it was too big for what i was looking for. its down to the gs and the audi a6. maybe i'll be a regular here after picking up the gs =D. thanks again

If you're buying a used one I would be very wary of rattle problems
around the dash area. Some GSs are better than others, but I
believe that problem was fairly widespread at least in this forum.

I like my GS300 a lot, but there are times I wish it had more power.

...but also, understand that the popoulation on this board represents probably 1/1000 (or less) of the actual 3GS-owning population in the US. Normally, people who are having issues will seek out a board like this one for feedback. Everyone else, with no issues or complaints, are going about their lives and don't even know this board exists. My 06 GS300, for example, is stone silent...not a rattle to be found.

On the other hand, relatively new cars that are traded in may possibly be those with problems.
