Default Upgrading 4th Gen NAV to 5th Gen????

Hello Club Members,

does anyone know if I can upgrade my 4th Gen NAV to 5th Gen? I have the NAV package without the ML. Can I accomplish this with just a new NAV DVD version? I asked the dealer couple of months ago to install the new DVD version from the 2007 model and they told me to wait until the 2008 GS models. I am confused. Does the new version of the DVD upgrades my NAV so I can have improved BT phone features or does the upgrade just update the maps and POIs? Help please. I don't want to spend $400+ if I only going to get some updated maps and couple of extra POIs.

the new 2008 is a larger screen I "think" plus better detail.
I wouldn't recommend upgrading from 4th GEN to 5th GEN. Waste of money!
The cost of that would be so rediculous I would just wait till you are ready to get a new car and just get the latest and greatest at that time. Don't waste your money.... BT still is poor even on the 5.1 and 6.1 GEN. Now acura.....

Jace7,

Thank you for responding. I was not planning on doing any hardware changes. I agree with you , that will be too costly. I was hoping that going from version 0.51 to 0.6 DVD will also upgrade the firmware so I can enjoy some new features (if any). When comparing my car (06) to a new one (07) I found out that the (07) will allow drivers to voice command phone number dial and voice command address input on the NAV. Are there any club members that purchased a newer version of the NAV DVD? what was there experience?

the only difference from 5.1 to 6.1 is that there are the updated maps. More roads, ex. No real difference between the two.
Yes in mine you are able to do those but i find it easier and faster to just input them manually by hand. I did the NAV hack so I can input while driving. Makes life alot nicer while driving.

My 2006 did not come with Navigation, at first I was disappointed, so I got an over the dash Garmin. Now I have used a lot of OEM navigation systems, and I can tell you, for under $400 (on sale model 2720) I got a ultra precise touch screen, ease of navigation, and can do things while on the move, plus the voice prompts even tell me the name of the street to turn on as well as the direction.

It is sadly over the dash, but it is worth it... and no DVD to reload, you can do it through your computer and the net. it is all solid state....
