They run for a little over 15k-17k anyway, so hopefully will make up my mind by the time I'm ready for new tires. One definite show stopper for me is that gap. With 17" wheels, your tire profile is higher and looks more beefy, in my head of course . Maybe its just me, but beefy tires make gap look smaller (at least in case with my Silver car). I would like to drop it with NF210 springs, but not convinced yet since its not recommended for AWD...
I felt the same way about "throwing away" the runflats, particularly since ours only have 1400 miles. So, for the first time ever, I am going to do the seasonal thing with tires, except that instead of using snow tires in the winter, the 17s with the runflats will be put back on. I rationalize that by thinking that I wouldn't want to change a flat when it's 10 degrees outside.

The gap is around 1/16" bigger with these than with the 17s (basically the same), but for some reason, it does seem more noticeable with these wheels. So, don't worry, this isn't only in your head!

Are you planning to drop it or will you keep it as is?

I'll keep it as-is. The gap doesn't bother me too much, and between the snow and the crappy roads here in MA, it's probably better to leave it alone.

Then there's that budget thing... I've been buying too much car-related stuff lately (Zaino and other stuff)

Oh, I saw that Your car looks Zaino-rrific!!! I also know exactly what you mean by bad roads and leaving enough clearance to avoid potholes and speedbumps.

I as well swapped out the stock 17's for the 5 spoke 18 inch rims, and lowered with the NF210's. Made it through winter with no problems and here in KC we had one of the worst winters on record with multiple snow events dropping 10 plus inches.

The AWD with a good set of all seasons and a responsible driver were no problem whatsoever for winter at its worst. And IMO the car drives so much better after being lowered. Doesn't have near the body role when you turn tight corners.

Thanks! I just did 2 coats of Z2 on the wheels. Makes life a lot easier when removing the loads of brake dust!

Next I have to give the truck some TLC. It hasn't seen the full Zaino treatment in some time.

Thank you, Seize!

Yang1815: It took some time to persuade my wife that this mod was "necessary"... She actually likes the 10-spoke wheels a LOT more than I do. But of course, now she loves the 5-spokes on her car. So, it's ok to be tempted!

sbrown02: That's really good to know, thank you. We only drove the GS on little snow this past winter with the 17s, so that's very helpful information. I got all seasons, just in case, so I have the option to run these all year long. For now, I'll keep the pretty rims away from the salt and sand, but we'll see how the runflats perform next winter.

O thanks, I already have the rims in my garage, I'm just waiting for my car.

I meant I'm tempted to lower the car with the Tanabe springs

LOL! To think that I read your original post yesterday about the wheels, and I still wrote this... It looks like I'm more tired than I thought and mixed up some names. Sorry...

I hope the car arrives soon!

The springs do sound like a nice proposition too.

Haha it's ok

The car should get here at the earliest on the 21st as I was informed yesterday, so the earliest delivery date would be the 23rd. Can't wait!!!

And yes, the springs sound tempting >_<

So I can assumed that your 18" 5 spoke wheels are not OEM, but from the aftermarket?

So I can assumed that your 18" 5 spoke wheels are not OEM, because you have mentioned that the center caps do not match with your new 18" 5 spoke.
