Default Question about VDIM......

For those of you have 430 and 450h, does VDIM really make any significant improvement in terms of traction and control in wet/slip conditions?

Thanks in advance.

VDIM, is that the trac control you are referring to?

If so, I hate it. It's a sorry excuse in my mind.
Traction control is a joke. Now AWD, that's nice.
But when my traction control kicks in, the car, applys breaks, then lets off the gas, while reducing spin.
I would rather be able to push through turns with the AWD than have the trac kick in.

The trac feature in my mind is only GREAT for stopping rolling/accidents from spinning/cornering.

Here's an explanation of VDIM and how it works...

VDIM = is a system which integrates braking (ABS and BA = brake assist), steering (variable gear ratio steering = VGRS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) [and Traction Control (TRAC) systems to help minimize loss of traction in a turn.

Here are some good descriptions and demo clips of how VSC and TRAC is seamlessly controlled by VDIM:

Here's an older article from The Auto Channel:

As for the pedal dance, it allows you to disable both TRAC and VSC simultaneously which in essence will allow you to spin your tires as needed. The pedal dance for the TRAC/VSC disable is not to be confused with calling it a "VDIM OFF" sequence. Since the pedal dance will work with most modern Toyota and Lexus vehicles i.e. Avalon, IS250/250AWD, GS300/GS300AWD, these vehicles listed do not have VDIM. The only vehicles that have VDIM in the lineup are the Toyota Highlander & Camry Hybrid versions, Lexus RX400h, GS450h, GS430 and IS350 only.

Thanks for the replys. I guess from real world experiences from the posts, it reacts no difference than simple VSC which was on old GS, it may added some other elements to make it work better in theroy.
