there isnt that much difference between the 06 and 07. The big difference besides displacement is Fuel Injection type. Other than that not much:

Toyota V6's historically are very fuel efficient thanks to the gearing and timing. My 1MZ-FE V6's in my Toyota Avalon and Toyota Solara were proof of that.

I used 93 Octane for the Road Trip.

here in the midwest there is no 92 and 93 is all but impossible to find. 91 is common and is at 99 per cent of stations as premium. I used to seek out 93 for my Vette but that was the only car I ever had that it seemed to make a difference in.

I just filled up all across Wisconsin yesterday and today and had no trouble finding 93.

PhilipMSPT is off, Iridetucke, the GS300 had a new engine in 2006, but lots of people complained, me included about lack of power, when compared to an Avalon that had a 3.5l. engine.... with a more powerful engine, I presume Lexus raised the gear ratios, so the mileage should be pretty consistent, assuming you don't use the extra power to impress the guy in the next lane.......

you may be right there, Nauticalx, since that engine replaced an inline 6 in prior model year GS300, I naturally assumed it was a new engine, especially since Lexus claimed it was ULEV... you may therefore be right and that is an old engine but where did Lexus use that 3l. 245HP V6 in prior years?

The 3GR-FSE 3.0L V6 245hp was an all new motor as this GR series motor replaced the inline 6 2JZ 3.0L of previous. The only other Lexus branded model that currently uses the 3GR-FSE 3.0L V6 is in the middle eastern market IS (where the IS300 has been reborn but as a 2nd generation model). Lexus first utilized the 3GR-FSE 3.0L V6 in the Gen 3 2006 GS300. We can only hope Lexus will replace the underpowered IS250 2.5L 4GR-FSE V6 with the 3GR-FSE 3.0L.

Thanks Flipside for the info on the 2006 GS300 engine... I did think it was a new engine, so you are vindicating me, too bad the Lexus techs made it so unpowered, I don't know what they were thinking, thank God the 2007 engine was upgraded to a 3.5l... actually, I am happy with the 300, trouble is, if you want performance, you need to drive with a heavy foot and ensuing poorer mileage...
