A maryland Lexus service rep recommended I stop using premium in favor of regular, mileage has even improved during highway driving... after 5000 miles, no engine problem, knock on wood, and my original complaint about sooty tailpipes, well the pipes are starting to look less sooty.

you'd think there would be more soot on the pipe with regular gas
but regular gas is supposed to decrease the hp output a little. by how much i dunno

Yes,33 to 35 mpg and it wasn't a fluke. We took two seperate trips,both,from NJ to Toronto and back. The funny thing is that on both trips,we recorded 2 mpg better coming home.Iguess we had a tail wind.
