Somehow in rest of the world, they are able to roll all the windows up and closes the sunroof via remote (must be the child safety lawsuits)!!!

IMO, Lexus should allow ones without child(ren) to have the right to activate window roll up option for our remote (I am willing to sign the wavier, if I have to)!!! Because weather in TX is very moody just like women, it would be sunny and would be raining in minutes!!!

I am going to ask my service advisor to see if I can activate that function!!!

I also have the rear shade on my GS, but hardly find the need to use it in NY. When I'm driving the family ES down in Florida, the shade is used constantly. My reason is simple, to keep the interior cooler (as if that were possible in the FL sun) but ALSO to keep out the harmful UV rays that will fade and age interior surfaces including the wood and the leather. On my old LS400, the suns rays blistered the wood dash (the dash curved upward into the sun) and I neglected to use one of those fold up winsdhield visors. So for me, it's more important to protect the wood and leather when parked in the hot sun. I ALWAYS close the sunroof visor, too. While driving, the sun's effects are lessened with your constantly changing direction, and the A/C is on, right?


As Yang mentioned, the heat absorbed to the interior is a function of time; and the same is true for cold temperatures. Eventually the temperature of the interior will establish equilibrium, given the green-house effect & full solar load up to 165 degrees at high sun. But if you're parked only 1 hr vs. 8 hrs., the shades will definitely help.

This thread has gone a bit off-topic, but as to the question raised by the original poster, IMO it's not worth the hassle or expense to install this feature if it wasn't part of the original package. It's much easier to buy one of those fold-up visors and install on the rear shelf, just as you'd place over the windshield.

hello folks! this forum is so very helpful, thanks for all the helpful tips! i have an '06 gs3, matador red with black interior. i bought it in 9/05 and have 87k miles on it. my sunshade has stopped working (not retracting all the way out when raised). has anyone experienced this problem? there is a tsb (tech service bulletin) from the dealer regarding this issue, however, they stated since i am out of warranty by 30k miles, they will only cover half which means it will be $900 out of my pocket to fix. i feel at this point, my only option is to tint the vehicle. i live in cali, and want to know what is the best tint on all 4's (windows) i can obtain without being pulled over. also, i upgraded my navi dvd to the 07 version and can no longer use the mod on the navi, does anyone have a fix on that? thank you!
