Any idea why the GS sells the least?
any thoughts?
only 1800 sales/month.
do people think it's not worth the money?
should the GS be priced lower?
the 5 series sold 3600 in may 2007 between the 528, 535, and 550 models.
The 535 has been a pretty hot seller.
would people rather spend a few thousand more for the bmw?

Keep in mind the GS is flanked by both the more spacious ES and the not-so-much-more flagship LS.
I personally love mine and to me, it's worth every single penny.
The GS is already priced lower in the category. Equally equipped M35, 5 series, and E-class all cost more.

Bought mine in October 2005. LS 460 didn't come out until
much later... I also said it half jokingly cause I am in New
England and the AWD is very nice here.
If I move out of here which I may, the LS will be on the top
of my list.

Hopefully Lexus will bring out a true high performance model ala GS-F to help the GS breathe fire again. Something Wicked This Way Comes was a great slogan for the 2nd Gen GS. We can only hope the best for the future.

I don't know about now, but back when I priced out the GS and the M35 AWD, the M35 was cheaper. Much bigger discounts. But i loved the style of the GS. And I chose the GS over BMW because I wanted a car that I never had to bring into the shop.
For 30-somethings, I think the GS is still a bit understated as compared to the BMW. I know that I felt a little like I had bought an "old guy" car. But drop it and put some hot wheels under it and look out!
FYI, stay tuned for pics of my Flint Mica GS with staggered Giovanna Dalar 20's !!!

Besides the poor quality issue, a 535 AWD costs alot more than my GS350 AWD with the same options.

Also don't forget the MB E-class and Infiniti M cars. Very appealing
packages, especially for the older crowd. To me the 5 series
is nice, but the styling is sort of a buzzkill.
My GS improvement wishlist :
- 400HP AWD
- bigger fuel tank
- softer leather
- brake hold feature
- more wood
- alabaster interior color combo
- slightly better front and rear styling

before they bring out the gs-f they better get a handle on the suspension set up first. Yesterday took the car up to 220km/h and it wasn't close to the 5 series or the E-class in high speed stability. It felt much more floaty, light, and less responsive than either of the other cars. But it was quieter and smoother than either since the engine produced less noise and less vibrations. If Lexus can fine tune the suspension to sit somewhere between the BMW handling and MB luxury ride than it will be perfect. Currently I think it rides a little to harsh in the city and too soft on the highway. So you get the older gentlemen not liking the car because it rides harsh and the younger crowd not liking the car because it doesn't handle as well as a BMW. Everything else in this car is perfect I wouldn't change anything ( maybe the rattles that many complain about but I don't have it yet ).

Besides some of the things mentioned, one extremely important factor hasn't been mentioned.
Most people lease midsize luxury cars.
The problem is that the GS does not lease out well at all, the rates aren't bad.....but the residuals are horrible.
They can't remotely compete with the Infiniti M and BMW 5series in that regard.

If you're leasing, a comparably equipped GS and 5 series would be pretty close in monthly payments. With the inflated residuals offered by BMW, I had priced out a $60k 5 series which appeared to be a better deal since you could drive off the more expensive car for about the same down/monthly payment as a $50k GS. If I were purchasing there would have been no doubt that the GS is a better bargain.
The GS prevailed BECAUSE there are so few of them. All I see all day long are 5 series and E Classes running around so I wanted something a little different. In this car class that narrowed my choices down to the M35 and GS. I liked both cars but chose the GS because it looked a little better to me plus I was just coming out of a G35 and wanted to try a engine with a little more power. The M35 still has the 275hp engine.

You'd think if they were selling more of them, then they'd make more of them. Since the GS isn't a limited production model, production probably just reflects the demand for the car.
