Default Some random questions on the GS350

Hi All,

I had various random questions about the GS 350 so figured I'd just ask them in this post.

1) When the car is first started, the lighting scheme is very eye catching for about 2 seconds. The needles glow brightly but the background is totally dark. It just looks extremely cool. But then all the lights even out and it goes to a regular lighting where everything glows the same. Is there any way I can set it to always stay lit up like this? (To try it out, just look at your RPM/speedometer as you press start.)

2) I checked out a friends IS350 recently and the metal pedals were an excellent touch. Can these be installed on a GS? How much do they cost and where can I get them?

3) What is your RPM when doing 70 MPH on a flat highway in cruise? (Mine seems to be exactly 2000RPM) Has anyone managed to get it upto 3000RPM in a steady cruise and what speed was it?

Thanks.

i think if u open the drop down panel and press "MAX" it will illuminate the gauges all the way.

I just tried it again but hitting "MAX" causes the entire gauge to glow bright or dim. Not just the needles. Any other suggestions?

I'll try to take a pic and post it tomorrow.

While not answering your question per sya, I'm guessing its part of a diagnostic run. The needle lights first then the background. And since seeing the background is important, I dont think they will give the feature to not turn on the backlight.

is there any benefit to running the engine speed higher?
5-speed trans can do that. but they eat more gas.

I just a saw a post elsewhere on this message board mentioning that he tries to keep his engine around 3000 rpm most of the time. I didn't exactly understand the concept behind this since I always though that low rpm was better for the engine.

yeah i would think you would already be in excess of 90mph to get it at a cruising range of 3000rpm. maybe even more. the GS tranny is pretty efficient.

if you insist on having it cruising at 3000rpm for some reason, you can always have it in S mode and drop it down to 5th or 4th gear. (not sure which as i never have wanted to highway cruise at a higher rpm than necessary!)

Well IMO to make your GS more responsive (After the break-in ~ 5,000 miles), once in awhile, I drive it in higher RPM 4,000-5,500. By using lower gears and accelerate slowly and keep it in 4,000-5,500 RPM, maybe 10 minutes at a time. So the engine would be accustom to the stree from running at high RPM.

But keep running it at 3,000 RPM all the time, not really sure the purpose of it either.

I think he's trying to burn off more fuel, so that he's lighter during the final 15 minute qualifying session ... wait, we're talking about a street car here ! I'm afraid I have no idea, either.
