Default Can you guys check something for me?

I just noticed this week that there is something wierd about the front passenger airbag sensor in my GS. My son is 9 years old, 5 feet tall and 90 lbs. Even though he was sitting in the seat, the center stack showed that the airbag was off. I didn't think much of it but today I saw this on the ES350 forum.

Can you guys do me a favor and let me know if you notice anything unusual with your front passenger seat airbag sensors? I can't tell if it's functioning normally or if it's doing what the ES350 sensor is doing. I have no idea what the trigger point is for the weight sensor so for all I know it may be operating normally. I will go out and sit in it myself to see if I can get the airbag to come on after lunch.

I checked, and the "airbag on" light came on when I sat in the passenger seat.

not sure what the weight amount trigger is, but when my 19 lb dog sits in the seat, it says, airbag on.

So it's obviously around there somewhere.

A nine year old should never sit in the front seat with an enabled air bag. That's how small kids get killed; so it's a good thing GS is configured to automatically disable the air bag.

I have a 9 year old as well (75 lbs, by the way, and shorter that yours), and I would never put him in the front seat. It's way too dangerous compared to the rear seat.

My 9 year old is 2" shorter than my wife and weighs 15 lbs less than her. IMO, he is the size of a small adult. Hmm.... maybe my wife is the size of a large child? I often joke that she is 4' 14" tall. Anyways, as long as the airbag is on, I have no problems with him sitting in front. I think I figured out the problem though. My airbag sensor works fine if he is sitting in the seat when I start the car. If he gets out while the car is running and gets back in the car, the airbag turns off and remains off. I'll have to bring it up when the car goes in tomorrow.
