I have a 07 GS350 with ML, and I also "had" a 2007 Passat wagon with Dynaudio.
Aside from the Passat blowing up after 17,000 miles, the Dynaudio is nothing but loud...Even loud, the soundstage is nowhere near the quality of the ML.
My friend has an 06GS NON ML. we had very long audition comparisons in both cars. It's night and day..
My friend is ultra bummed out he didn't get the ML.
A better comparison is the premium sound system from the volvo S40s
The Dynaudio is Stereo only, not 5.1 not 7.1 not even 4.0(is there such a thing in cars?)
For me the ML is worh every penny in the upgrade..
The Dynaudio was a ripoff...upgraded speakers+amp and the same crappy head unit with overly sensitive analog Bass+Mid+Treble controls.
Dynaudio is cool , but in the VW's its a hack. a very loud hack.
Please don't take this as an attack.
Anyways, if you need to ask the question "is the ML worth it?" then you don't need it.

I guess it all comes down to a matter of personal preference when it comes to subject of audio equipment.
I have friends that would not put a dime into any car stereo because they believe any car is useless as a platform for audio but I also know people that sweat every detail when it comes to listening to music in their cars. Either school is fine with me, I really don't care one way of the other because I am fine with an OEM radio most of the time so I'll leave the serious audio opinions for others to argue about.

I have ML in my GS but bought it used. For the price of the option on a new car if you can't hear the difference it's not worth it to you. If you know of a local trusted audio shop have them install something cheaper that you can hear is better then the ML to you. But down the road at time of resale some one like me would prefer the ML as it sounds good to me, came stock with the car so there should be fewer problems and used, it only added like $300 to the price of my car.

Not much of a choice in Hawaii, all GSh comes with it, so I'm getting it. But if I had the choice, just based on sound, I'd opt for the non-ML and go for an aftermarket system. But with the added features like DVD & 7.1 surround, as well as the sensors, I'd opt for the ML.
