Default Finally! AUX port on the 08 GS

Looks like I might be getting another GS afterall, we'll see. For 2008 they finally added the AUX port.

An aux port does not give you complete nav screen control of your ipod, it's just a headphone jack to connect your iPod and get the sound into the system. My Vaistech SLS has full nav screen Sirius integration like your factory unit AND an iPod/aux input. If it's that important to you, just add a Vaistech module.

hmmm, maybe i should get that. How is your sirius reception? Mine has been pretty crummy, especially on the 710 and 405... every overpass interrupts service.

Sirius reception in CA is pretty weak, I get 1/2 second dropouts under bridges as well and never had those issues with XM. I don't think you want to add the Sirius Vaistech module since you already have Sirius, but you could add a iPod Vaistech module which would allow complete nav screen integration of your iPod. Even the '08 GS can't offer that!

We're looking at a new or slightly used 2007 GS350. Could you tell me a little more about this "module" -- we'd like to be able to use our XM radio (we have portable one) and Ipod (less important), but I hate having all the parts and wires dangling (same reason we want the built-in NAV even though some of the portable NAV systems are better). Is this something you buy from the dealer, or after-market? How is it installed? How much does it cost? Thanks much.

on Sewell Lexus website they have a accessorie Ipod connector that will be coming out the later part of 2008 that lets you connect ipod via a plug inside of glove compartment like BMW has. Not sure of price but think it probably will cost around $400+ for unit and installation.

I need to chose between Sirius and XM. I am in the San Jose area. Where are you?

I roll with Sirius as you can see in my sig,but they (XM&Sirius) are trying to merge,so you would not have to choose one or the other.

In San Jose my Sirius works fine.

If I were to do it again i would get XM... why?

Utlizes the outside sharkfin antenna vs the internal antenna for sirius.
XM offers better electronica music than Sirius.
XM has MLB, Sirius is nice because they have NFL but that is only useful on sundays and usually I'm at home then.

2thfixr do u still have your XM unit for your GS? hehe.

Gotta comment on sharkfin antenna. I have Sirius with Vaistech SLS and had it professionally wired to the sharkfin. I also have a way to switch it to the outside/inside puc antenna. Guess what? The reception is the same. I didn't want to keep antenna outside cause its ugly. And, I actually found the reception with a portable puc antenna ($39 at Best Buy) thrown on the shelve under the rear window (in clear site from right/left angle) gives me a slightly better reception.

So, my geographic location is to blame for any reception problems. Being outside of big city, I can only depend on satellite signal and not terrestrial repeaters. Either way I still get brief drop out under the bridge or in the area with a lot of trees blocking the skies. Yes, it sucks when I'm listening to Howard and get a drop out. Regarding music selection, true XM will have a better electronic/dance music (and I’m biased cause a few of my DJ friends play my tunes on XM ), but without Howard and a lame comedy channels - its not the same. Will see about the merger. That can drag for years...

Although I think they should be able to merge without government interference, my bet is that the government or some judge will block it.
