I understand the volume screen override doesn't work on the 2007 GS 350. So, what does work to override the lockout? And is there a way to disable the "I agree" button on Version 6.1.
Also, what is the purpose of the hybrid disk?
(FWIW, my car will come with the 6.1 version (should be in my driveway in about an hour

Cut-throat, I very cleverly went to the last page of Tips and Tricks (figuring that's where I should start for a question on a newer car) and found your post that for a 2007 GS350, I'd either have to cut wires or create a hybrid disk. Since I don't have another earlier disk with which to create the hybrid (which earlier version would I need?), I guess I'm left with cutting wires. And since the car is brand new, I'm not going to cut wires just yet. We'll see. Thanks.

no way to get around i agree screen, only starting 08 lexus bypass the i agree screen.
yes, hybrid disc and cutting wires are two options for the nav heck. but there is a plug and play module form japan that's supposed to work for the 3gs as well. it's proven on the ls460. if you have ML, it allows dvd playback when driving while still allowing the nav to work

rominl, I don't have ML (and don't care about watching dvds in the car). Is Lockpick the "plug-and-play" you're talking about? If so, has anyone used it on a 2007GS350 with v. 6.1?
Also, assuming I need the 5.1 disk to make the hybrid disk, and assuming I am willing to pay to get one legally, what do I need to look for - just the version number or a certain generation also?

I would suggest that you arrange for the dealer to give you the 7.1 upgrade disc. The I agree button is gone and the map and poi's are updated. Nothing like buying a new car that already has an outdated disc. Anyone getting an 07 should insist on them throwing it in. Not only will it save many fingerprints on the screen everytime you drive, but you deserve the most updated disc that is available.
Afterall, what could it really cost them for the disc?
I got mine for a net cost of 220, and it is worth it in my opinion.

Tuthman, thanks, but it isn't the I Agree screen or the POIs/maps that concern me. I live in an area that's fully built out. No new subdivisions. POIs, sure, there may be a few. It's the lockout I'm most annoyed with, not the newer disk (which still has the lockout even if the I Agree screen is gone and the POIs/maps are updated)

well, the override unit has been tested and confirmed on JDM spec LS, GS, and IS. for the US spec, the unit has been tested on LS. my guess is it will probably work with GS and IS, but i can't be sure. plus the unit is supposedly for system with TV/DVD, how is that different with cars without ML, it will be mystery till someone tries it

Well it has already been established that the two ways to override the lock-out is to either physically install a switch to disrupt the speed signal, or to make your own hybrid disc of navigation DVD. Since you're not going to cut wires in your brand spanking new car, you're left with one option and I don't believe that there is a certain version number you should look for. There is only one 5.1 disc.
If you know anyone at the dealership at all you could probably borrow a 5.1 disc. Or what you could do is wait til you get an RX for loaner since they should still have the 5.1 disc.

I wrote this in another thread (IS I think), but it may be more appropriate here:
I'm trying to get a handle on this. Please confirm:
1. The "hard" version (cutting wires; installing switch) allows NAV input while driving, caller ID, phone number input while driving, dvd watching, BUT can cause nav issues (I don't understand why you would do this if it will cause NAV issues)?
2. The "soft" version (hybrid disk between 5.1 and 6.1) only gives you the ability to input a new NAV destination, but doe not give you caller id, phone number input or dvd watching.
Am I correct?

Wrong, it doesn't cause navigation issues if done correctly. The issue you're talking about would be a very jumpy navigation spot. i.e. you stay in one spot on navigation screen although you're moving, then it jumps to another location. This is caused by a compete disruption of the speed signal to the navigation system. However, if you were to install a physical switch, you can temporarily interrupt the signal to trick the navi unit into thinking that you're stopped. And then you can restore the signal once you're done inputing addresses and what not. The only thing is that you have a window of less than 2 minutes. Because as soon as the navi unit receives a signal from the satellite indicating that you have actually moved, it would lock out again.
Number 2 is correct.
Number 2 is correct.
