What is 3/10 of a second worth to you?
Now that they have the 2008 brochures on-line now at lexus.com, I've been pouring over the details.
Since the 2008 GS460 is only 3/10 of a second faster in the 0-60 -- which the ranges of speeds that I spend most of my driving in -- than the 350, I have to ask myself how much I'd be willing to spend to have a car that shaved 3/10 of a second off of a 5.6 second 0-60 time.
I'm not sure how much I think the 3/10 is worth, but certainly not much and definitely not the almost $10K difference between the 350 and the 460.
But, as I said before, I don't really care since I'm 350 bound as soon as I can get the exact 2008 I want (a fully load red with a cashmere interior.)

my take? 0-60 isn't really the territory for v8 these days anymore. knowing the pick up speed of ls460 from 70-120, the gs460 can probably do that faster and easier than the gs350. gs350 is very fast from 0-60, and still fast afterwards, but high speed pick up? big engines still rules
and in your case, it seems like you answered your own question

Get the best of both worlds, in 6 months I'll bet the gs460 will be going for close to invoice. I'm sure dealers will want msrp for the next 2 months, but after that prices will soften . . .

i don't know which part of CA you drive in, but where i drive when there is no traffic, 80 is easy. and no one is asking you to drive CONSTANTLY at 90mph, i am talking about picking speed, how fast it gets you there to pass the stupid drivers, the trunk, to get away from the car crashing beside you, etc...

If the .3 sec is the only issue, I'd say forget it because after a couple of days you will get used to it and you will be looking for the next upgrade. .3 seconds is not that much and if I had to guess, your reaction time could easily vary by that amount. It's all relative and everytime you get a faster car, your reference point resets. IMHO, my GS is plenty quick and I still get a thrill launching it hard from a stop. If you are looking for torque and hoping to get rid of the stupid ticking direct injection sound, get the V8.

I have 2 agree with rominl though 0-60 is really a mute point these days unless your racing...For these cars and most daily drivers it's that get up and go after you have been rolling already...I love my new GS, but honestly if I had it 2 spend I would have been in a V8 without a question...

I still think that most GS drivers, if they look at the percentage of time they drive, most of it would be in the city or on the highway with enough traffic so that above 70 would be almost impossible a large percentage of the time. Heck, I bet most people spend the majority of their time off of the highway entirely.
Buy, hey, if it's worth almost $10K to you to be able to go just slighty faster, go for it.

There you go then, all the more reason why the upgrade is not worth it. I bet the V8 sounds good at WOT though.
