prepare to hold for the 30-45 seconds only override with the unit

small flat head screw driver, masking tape, philips, 10mm socket, long extension (magnetic type helps A LOT), cutter or small knife. it's a lot easier than doing the ls460, that's a real pain

Thanks socal and rominl.

By this you mean that the override of the nav function only lasts for 30 seconds rather than the full 5 min, correct?
Also, this does not apply to the DVD function I thought. It would be horrible to have to hit the button every 30 secs while watching the dvd.

dvd will play forever no problem, but yes nav override only 30-45 secs. that's why i don't have it yet,

^ Not entirely true, Nav lockout is speed sensitive relative to the '08 or v7.1 upgrade and not an issue for the '07 or v6.1. I have a '08 and if my speed is under 30mph, the Nav override will stay on for 5 mins, however if I go over 30mph, the Nav will lockout in 30 secs. The Dvd override works until you turn it off. 30 sec Nav lockout is not a deal breaker for me, I'd rather have this functionality than none at all. . .

I'm with socal on this one and have the same speed sensitive time window. I have an 06 with nav 7.1. At about 30mph or above its 30 seconds, longer than that if under 30 mph. Haven't timed it at slow speed as carefully but it's at least a couple of minutes. at road speed, when the 30 second window expires, you can flick the unit off for a few secs then flick it back on and get another 30 seconds and you can pick up input where you left off. minor inconvenience for me. 30 seconds is better than 0 in my case.

yes it's better than nothing, but it's not 1/2 of the price. i tried that overide, and on different runs, somehow sometimes at 20mph it still cut off everything. it's so random it's not funny.

just me

What about bluetooth phone options? 30second as well?
The ebay price is pretty cheap right now, and the (apparent) ability to DIY this saves a bunch more cash.

To have any more functionality than we have stock would be a major improvement for me and well worth the $250+s&h

Any of you combine this unit with a VAIS ipod adaptor?
I will wait till the Sewell Lexus ipod adaptor comes out, but I wanted to see if one of the VAIS adaptors will work as well.

One work around for BT, IIRC you have 17 speed dial buttons that you can program. You can always access the speed dial while in motion so no need to override and manually enter phone #s.

Same with the Nav, you can program up to 6 POIs and access them anytime while in motion. I use the BT speed dial & Nav program buttons all the time. I guess if you need more than 17 speed dial or 6 nav buttons, than you're SOL. . .

If you see my .sig in the original post, I do have the VAIS unit and they work fine together ;-)

Im going to try and do it myself. The photos and decriptions these guys have provided are very detailed. I just have to make sure I have all the necessary tools and set aside a good half a day so that I have the time to do it slow and correct. That and print out all the directions and study them closely.
Im going out of town this weekend for Valentines day, so it will have to be the weekend after that.

just to let you know.. it might be easier if you have a friend help you do the install ... this way one guy can hold the unit while the other one unplugs stuff... i'm thankful that i did this mod at my friend's place where he was able to help me yank that thing out and also hold it... with his help, i was able to get it done in less than an hour and that is being super careful too... good luck with the install
