Question 3GS brakes?

I posted this in a reply to another topic where I'm sure it will get lost, so bringing it up here as a new topic.

This has nothing to do with dustless-TSIB that a lot of us have. Whenever I get IS250AWD loaner, I absolutely love its brakes. So responsive, just a little tap and you stop! Often while going through stop'n'go traffic, I wish our GS350 brakes would be the same. It totally pisses me off when I'm trying to keep a distance with a car in front of me (stop'n'go traffic, that is) and someone else takes this as an opportunity to cut in. That's when you need a very quick brake response which I feel like in 3GS is only when you apply a good pressure on your brake pedal.

Anyway to make our 3GS brakes to perform like IS brakes?

What brakes are on the IS? I think they're slotted and not sure what pads but slotted rotors and brembos would be awesome

Except for the larger brakes, I hear that the brake feel on the IS250 and IS350 are identical. The IS350 has the same brakes as the 3GS300/350 so the braking feel should be very similar. Many 2IS owners complain of very touchy, grabby brakes. It may be an issue with your particular car. See if you can't drive another GS to see how it compares.

Trust me, I had original GS350 brakes and dustless brakes, and have driven other 3GS - those are not grabby/touchy like IS. Maybe because they want GS to behave more like a luxury rather than smaller sporty? But since you mentioned them being the same as IS, I wonder if its just a matter of a simple adjustment to make them behave that way?

or maybe coz' of the balance of the car. the is350 is only a bit lighter than the gs, but maybe it's better balance so the brakes work "better" in that case. or maybe the master cylinders are different causing the difference

the IS has ECB.. Electronically controlled braking. Get a GS460 if you want ECB. GS350 does not have it.

Pretty much all Lexus have the EBD system. IS350/GS350/GS430 have the same brake set up , 4 piston front calipers with same size 13.1" rotors. Maybe it is because of the lessor (150lb) weight on the IS makes it easier to stop.
Then again you drove the IS250AWD which have the traditional one piston brake calipers. Being all wheel drive, the engine down-shifts with all wheel instead of 2 wheel on a regular rwd. So that ruling is probably why the braking is better.

EBD and ECB are different. GS350 has EBD, GS460 has EBD and ECB.

So, what is a difference between EBD and ECB?

EBD - Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
ECB - Electronically Controlled Braking

basically one is helping you distributing braking forces to 4 wheels, but the other i take it's similar to brake by wire. that's my guess

EBD = Electronic brake distribution. This system distributes the braking force to different wheels based on inputs to the system from yaw and wheel speed sensors (ie if u brake in a corner)

ECB = Electronically controlled braking. This system is an electro-hydraulic braking system. A computer modulates the braking pressure based on pedal input from the driver.

the lexus website does not list ECB for 2008 IS. I know it existed on the 2006 IS... maybe it was deleted.

ECB is a feature which VDIM help ties in with the other safety features of the GS430/450h/460 and the other models with VDIM like the IS350. The GS350 does not have VDIM.

ECB is still listed as a feature on the 08 IS350:
