Just to reinforce, Henry and Ryan are 100% correct.
Some other facts, the Lexus GS was a Lexus GS everywhere it was sold in the world outside Japan when it debuted here in 1993.
Also the Toyota Aristo never had a V-8 but on the 2JZ and the TT (turbo) 2JZ with a 4 speed auto. We got the 2JZ and the V8 option, both with 5 speed autos.
Lexus in Japan debuted in 2006 with the all new GS and only the SC 430 (Which was the Soarer in Japan). Then the new IS debuted and now the LS has debuted.

and i will just state my point as well. i don't consider "marking" a lexus gs into a toyota aristo a "degrade". it's in whoever eyes, you think so that's fine. to me they are the same car and it's about pursuit of originality.

Its a stronger tranny. The 5 speed can handle about 400hp safely and that is pushing it. With BPU mods, the 2JGTE is at 400 to the wheels easy.
The same reason our IS 300 got the 5 speed manual and the Altezza got the 6 speed manual. IS 300 had more torque than the 2.0 I-4, thus Lexus made the decision that the 5 speed would be more reliable, especially over time.
