Default Can You Adjust The Low Beams Vertical Setting Yourself If You Have Afs.

I have the adaptive healight system and I feel that I cant see far enough when I am driving at night. The dealership says you cant with the AFS. But the manual says on pg 430 how to do it yourself. I want them to do it at the dealership. Is it true can you only adjust headlights if your GS doesnt have AFS ?

I have AFS and I just adjusted them up myself. So you can do it, I am not sure but I think the headlight have to be on to adjust them.

Thats typical dealership BS - go to another dealership. IIRC, you can adjust both the horizontal & vertical alignment with a long phillips (+) driver, even if you have AFS (I know I could with my 2IS).

its not that hard to do. a 2 year old can adjust the height of the headlights. just park the car infront of a wall, raise the hood, and find the screws that enable you to adjust the lights and do it. nothing can go wrong. i have done this already with no problem

I did mine too. I can't believe Lexus released the car with stock settings so low. You shouldn't have to rely on the high beams to see 60 yrds down the road.

All 5 of the Toyota and Lexus I have owned had their headlight aim on the low side of the spec.

The last time I try to have the service tech adjust them higher, they told me they check it and it is within specs. If you want it done right, do it yourself.

There are a # of them. Here's a recent one - doesn't have all the details needed, but shows tool and location for vertical adjustment. Other details include - take off plastic covers, finding level location, turn vehicle and lights on.... etc.

The last link posted has some pretty good pictures in that thread by BurgBoxstr, thanks BurgBoxstr for the time and effort.

Here is older thread on headlight adjustment:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=220404

There is also instruction on how to take off the engine cover here:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=216004

BTW, I8ABMR, you might as well change your parking light and adjust the headlights once you have all the engine cover off.

I can't stress this enough, be carefull when turning the screwdriver. It is possible to strip the gear. If the tooth of the screwdriver is a bit off, you'll see shavings on the head when you take out the screwdriver.

Also, does anybody know if the car needs to be on(and lights on to adjust?) if you have afs?

i am not 100%, but i don't see how that would hurt. with the car on, the system is on so even if the ground is slightly inclined, the system will adjust to get back to reference point
