Direct Injection Noise

All I can say is Wow! I normally do a bit of research before purchasing a car. I have a two month old GS 350 and definately would not have made the purchase had I know about the ticking noise. I don't really care about the supposed benefits. The car sounds like a p.o.s I have a BMW 330I and an Infiniti G35. Both are awesome cars and both "sound" good. I am embarrased to drive the Lexus through the bank drive thru. The Lexus is my wifes car, I drive the Infiniti. I will not make this mistake twice. Good Bye Lexus.

It's not that bad once you get use to it. It does sound like some little 4cyl tonka toy of a car though. My memory always refer back to that every once in awhile when I can hear the ticking sound really loud, especially in a parking structure. People always turn around to look what crappy car is coming up and low and behold, it's a Lexus.

some people are just freaking impossible to satisfy,
give them more power, they complain it's too loud, give them bigger engine, they complain the mileage is worse than its v6 counterpart.
Give them 20cents more to the gallon, they complain they must downgrade to 87 because they can't afford it..
I... just don't understand too

honestly, I don't hear anything, but then again, I am the type of person who likes to hear the car's engine roar, so I love engine noise and exhaust noise and road feel. Seems like that's the exact opposite of what typical lexus owners expect from a Lexus - Complete silence.
Bottom line, if you don't hear it, great, enjoy the car, if you do hear every noise in the car, your ears are overly sensitive. Crank up the volume and enjoy

This is my second post on this site. My first one was kind of negative and that is not a great way to make an introduction. There were two instances shortly after the purchase that embarrased me. (knocking or ticking noise) That said, the car is wonderful. We took it to the beach this weekend and I really enjoyed the car. Hopefully I can contribute to the site in a positive way.

Talking about ticking noise, I had a E46 330Ci (gosh I miss its handling and high speed stability). guess the exhaust tone is too enjoyable to discern the ticking noise buried in the background. based on my 6-year ownership of 330, I have to say there is, if not louder than GS, noticeable ticking noise.
Compared to GS, 330's exhaust tone is so LOUD w/ good resonance (but again it's music to me). the whole house was shaking every time I fired my 330 up in the garage if you know what I am talking about.
