You mean WHEN and not 'IF' the GS460 is bumped up to 380hp. I'm sure it's part of the grand master plan, give them a nice 52hp bump from the ol' 1UZ-FE V8, then 2-3 yrs later bump it up to 380hp just like big brother LS AND at the same time debut the 500hp V10 GS-F - Lexus knows exactly what they're doing. . .

seriously, if you find the answer, let me know. 200lb increase, that's a lot
98-00 gs400 and 01-05 gs430 are essentially the same car. both engines have the same hp and the 430 has marginally more tq. both cars would post pretty much the same time (can't remember exactly but the gs430 was a bit heavier i think)
06-07 gs430 had the same engine as well, but with 6 speed so it's a tad faster. key board, tad.
the gs460 with 8 speed should be another tad faster as well, but of course with the big weight increase that doesn't help. and of course, lexus choose to "take away" 40hp off the engine, that's another bad decision.
the gs460 isn't selling well at all when i talk to my salesperson. i wonder if the car is going at invoice price as well now.
if they come up with the 380hp gs460, now that's going to be something (since the car is quite a bit lighter than ls460 i think)

also, the GS460 has single intake and if i remember correctly, the LS460 has dual intake setup, not sure if that's one of the reason for the reduced hp.

I'm not surprised, given the current economy and the price of crude. The GS350 is the same car, less $, better mpg, and *similar* performance. Even if the GS460 was at invoice in Dec when I got the GS350 - it wouldn't have changed my decision.

i do hope it's about "when" rather than "if". i still speculate the reason for a 342hp engine is coz' of the 450h. unless lexus has some answer to that, i am not sure if they will just bump the hp to 380. you didn't see that analogy in the ls, it went straight to 380hp
kevin, so the gs460 only has one intake input? i am not sure if that's going to contribute that much to hp?

here is a rather bad picture of my car with the engine bay shown with a single air intake
and here is a pic of the LS460 without the engine cover
i don't know how much difference it makes but it SHOULD have some difference in terms of output...

does it ever bother you that the magazines always describe lexus driving as sterile and boring. I read n article in one of the major car magazines and the writer was saying that lexus has uped the power blah blah blah... nice interior and great fit and finish .. blah blah blah. But then they always end saying that the car is sterile or imply that its not a true drivers car.

we, enthusiasts represent a VERY SMALL # , if you seriously think a Lexus should handle like a BMW, then you seriously got the wrong car like many people mentioned in your thread.
*sorry guys, the cycling class kicked my butt today so going to rest instead of popping my engine cover

unfortunately, in terms of handling and driving feel, and the scoop that those writers / magazines are in, i have to agree with them.
i have driven other cars, and to be honest, mb, bmw, and audi all gives more driver feels, tighter steering, and better handling.
however, of course, that doesn't mean anything. different owners want different things. for some people who want comfortable rides with good power, lexus is a perfect choice. but for people who enjoy often spirited drives, some other brands are preferred

APSSS option is only available on the 450h and 460, also the 460 has VGRS (Variable Gear-Ratio Steering) not sure if it will have much improvement for the steering feedback
