Default Touch Up Paint

Does anyone have any reco's on repairing stone chips on my hood ? I have a couple that I want to touch up but I want to do it right. Aside from a repaint, does anyone have any reco's ?

If its just paint itself w/o any dents, put a few coats of touch up paint. the last one being a nice blob so it fills the hole/chip nicely to make it flush with the paint around it. I got one right on the edge of the hood.

Thanks... Mine is Mercury Silver as well and the paint does not cover too well. Do you think more coats will do it ? I will give that a try. I want to avoid the lumps.

just touched it up a few times and you will be fine. You can not even see it from far.

I had to do a few... maybe 4+ coats. The last one I made it thicker so it would cover the chip and sort of mend/blend into the existing paint.

Mine was on the front edge of the hood so I had the hood up while I did it to prevent the touch up paint from dripping towards/downwards the front. I can still see it but from far, its hardly visible. Just don't think of it too much... it will irritate u the more u think about it.

as others have said, if you have patience and do multiple layers it will blend in very nicely.

also - instead of trying to finesse the paint in w/ the brush included in a touch up bottle, try using the skinny end of a toothpick. It'll give you much more precision and control.

Yeah, thanks for that link. I'll have to check it out too. So, I get the front end of my car protected with ClearShield, and then where do I get a chip? On the very bottom of the left rear fender - never got one there on the old car. I touched it up, but like others have mentioned even though you can't see from far, I still see it. I'll have to follow ek9vboi's advice and stop thinking about it.

OK guys...I just ordered the Langka blob eliminator (NOT the kit).

Looking at the threads and the tesimonials on the Langka site, it appeared the prepaint is just isopropyl alcohol, and the sealant may be a wax...not worth the extra $20.

Can anyone confirm. The site says the prepaint has "extra bonding agents"...but I think that is BS.

Let me know your thoughts/experience.

Have the 3M Scotchcal in front....chip is on the bottom passenger door...as well as a couple of scratches on the side panel by the hood.

I should have Scotchcal'ed the whole #$%^ car...a lot less stress.
