Default question about the gauge cluster

the owners manuel doesnt give a very detailed explanation but i get the jeneral idea about thow the gauge glass tints when light from outside shines in the rear window.

here is what i am not sure of.
i get that auto, low , high and normal have somthing to do with the amount of tinting that takes place but does high mean darker? or does it mean it has a higher sensitivity? (dims more easily)

and i believe manuel mode is supposed to hold the tinting at a certain level. is 1 the darkest or is 4 the darkest?

what settings do you guys use?
if i tint the rear window will it still work at all? im assuming it may not get as dark. but i would rather have the window tint than the tinted gauges. personally i dont think the glare will be an issue if the windows are dark.

I use normal...if I remember correctly, you can see the change as you toggle back and forth...it has been a while since I experimented, though....give it a try.
