what offset you have in the rear? 10+??

285 might be ok, though personally i think 285 is too wide for 10

also, just my opinion, but i try not to use nitto stuff. heard a lot of bad things about them, although i have never owned any myself

 

285/30/20 should be fine. I've been using that size for the past 7500 miles.

 

Your GS is AWD though, so does that mean you are riding a little higher, so you dont rub with the 285/30?

And for the rear rim, I'm going with a 20x10

Im interested in the Nittos because of the new staggered tire design they have with the INVO model. I heard that the NT55 are noisey, supposedly the INVOs are quieter, and a few people gave great reviews on them.

Josephdoc from Tireoutlet recomended me to go with the 275/35 in the rear, he said because I will be on coilovers and can adjust the height if neccessary, but with the 285/30, it might be too wide and rub the rear quarter panel fender lip. Any thoughts on this?

 

if you really have to choose between the two, i agree with joe about 275/35.

but then again, me personally i would choose neither

in general speaking, 285 on 10.5 is ok. i had that and think it looks pretty good.

however, it depends on brand and model. some 285 (like yoko, michelin) will look very square and meaty on 10.5 still. at the same time, some 285 (dunlop, toyo) will look a bit stretch

i still don't know the offset of the wheels. when you start getting into 10.5, you need to careful

 

I know a lot of people that run a 20x10 staggered setup for the rear wheels. I have never seen anyone use 275/35/20. Most GS owners use 275/30/20. The overall rolling diameter seems is too large for 275/35 (~27.6" on a 9.5" width wheel)? I would recommend either 285/30/20 or 275/30/20. The INVO's are fairly new tires, they look cool but there is no long term reports on them. The only reason I would like them is because you can rotate. Between the 275/35 and 285/30 you have a trade-off. The 275/35 is too large in diameter and the 285/30 is wider in section width. However, the 275/35 tire was tested on a 9.5" width wheel whereas the 285/30 is tested on a 10" width wheel (what you'll actually use). I don't get a lot of rubbing in the back. Actually, I don't recall the last time I noticed the rear tires rubbing in the back. Most of the tire rubbing is in the front. Pesonally, I wouldn't get 275/35, it will definitely affect your speedometer and gas mileage more than 285/30. Being that you want INVO's 275/30 is out of the question. I heard that the Yokohama S-Drive's are good as well.

ROMINL: you said you had the 285 on 10.5, did yours rub? and did u have to shave or roll rear fender? I would like to go with the 285 on 10.5 since INVO has that size, hopefully no need to shave fender lip.

Asanti will be building the wheel soon, and I believe that they will decide on the offsets that will be compatible? So I will find out what offset they recomend and post it asap.

 

Do you frequentlly have passengers in the back? does your AWD sit higher than a RWD even when lowered? and u said u didnt do any custom work on the rear fender lip right?

Why would you want a 10.5" wide wheel, the wider the wheel the wider the section width? You will increase your chances of rubbing with a width wider than 10".

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Asanti doesn't disclose the offset. iForged did not disclose the offset of my wheels.

 

1) My son is always in the rear passenger seat and sometimes my wife sits in the drivers rear passenger seat. On average, up to 200-250lbs occupy the back seat and trunk space.

2) I've never physically measured my ride height compared to a 2WD. Theoretically, the AWD should ride .5" higher.

3) No custom work. Anyone that upgrades their wheels/tires on a Lexus GS to 20" with suspension modifications will have some sort of rubbing. If you've noticed, www.tirerack.com doesn't even have a recommended wheel option for 20". Typically, Tire Rack won't recommend a wheel/tire combo that could possibly cause any issues (minor/major).

 

if they are building the wheels, you can always ask them to make the offset so you can use 285 and no rub. my 285 on 10.5 was on the gs400, not the 3gs

now i have 20x10 with 265/30

 

275/35? Too tall.

Otherwise, just make sure the offsets are OK. If Asanti does not tell you offsets or they won't built to your spec, then this is where the gambling occurs.

he said he had no rubbing with passengars, probably cuz his tires so thin it wont hit the plastic to rub, but he said rides just like stock come on now. lets be serious. lol
