Steering column "Noise"
I have a '06 GS 300 and I have noticed that every time I turn off the car and when I open the driver's door there is an immediate and brief noise emanating from the steering column. It sounds like an electrical solenoid moving into place or something. It is not the steering column moving up and out of the way, it is after that has taken place and the vehicle is off and when the door opens. Has anyone noticed this and know what it is? Just curious. Thanks.

Its somethin electical for sure; my moms 03' camry and her 08' ES both do that although its louder and more pronounced in the ES.
One possible thing is when you open the door you cancel the reserve power to open the windows when the car is turned off...
....I could be wrong though...

So to make a long story short...it's normal. Just kinda noisy.

I noticed this, and took it in to be looked at. It was the exact same noise. It happens when you start or stop the engine. And specifically when you open the door after stopping the engine. It's a 'electronic steering wheel lock'. The Tech said mine was a little 'noisier' than it should be, and they replaced it... it sounded quieter for a couple of months, but then was just as noisy as the first. Every time I've had a loaner, I've noticed a similar noise.
