Default I just bought an 88 corolla

just picked up an 08 gs350 about 3 days ago.. The Engine does not sound like a lexus at all...I have been experiencing some sort of ticking or fan sound when the car idles... It sounds like a 93 civic that has been running for hours in 90 degree weather? Anyone else experience this? Looking under the hood it looks like it is coming from the timing belt/pulliles assembly area .. maybe it needs to break in a little??? called the dealer but with the busy weekend probably wont get called until Tues...

The ticking noise is normal as the engine uses direct injection of fuel.

Probably normal... Just take it to the dealer and have a tech listen to it to make sure.

how is this normal? Thats why I bought a lexus for the quiet motor... I had an 6.1 SRT8 300C that was quieter idling? My RX never sounded like this either?? taking it to the dealer still..

Direct Injection engines are known for the ticking type sound, almost like a diesel to some opinions. The Audi 2.0T Turbo with Direct injection is even louder.

Your RX didn't have direct injection. Listen to the IS350, and it'll sound the same.

I feel you man. This is my first lexus and I didnt realize the direct injection was so loud as well. I expected the typical lexus totally silent idle. The direct injection makes the car sound like an old AE86 with a bad need for valve adjustment. Now in defense of direct injection it generally provides 15 more power while still providing 15% improved fuel economy. It also allows the engine to run cleaner

Seriously, for those of you who didn't notice the sound before you bought the car, did you test drive the car?!

It doesnt hurt to have them check it out. I do notice some GS are louder than others. The loaner GS I had was pretty loud but my GS, you can hardly hear it with the windows open.

An 88 corolla sounds better than the direct injection engines
