Hey there Guys, I have a dumb question but wanted to ask. I have a 08 GS 350 and wanted to know how far to close the trunk before this "automatic trunk closer works". So far I push the trunk down till I hear one click then the trunk makes a sound and locks itself. Is this what it's suppose to be? should I hear one click first or should it close by itself before that?

Yes, it's not going to close if you slowly push it down. Usually just a semi-soft pulldown is enough for it to shut itself.

So your saying I would need to push down hard enough to hear a click right? I was reading the manual and it didn't mention anything about a click. If I read it correctly it just said to lower it a little and it will close itself.

Mine does the same, one click then it closes itself... So I guess that is right..

can you close it slow. you just need to give it a push at the end to click once and then the auto trunk kicks in

I'm so use to slamming my trunks, I still do it but not as much now. I close it and push down lightly, then it auto closes and locks.

nah, I personally hate people that slam my trunk, I don't care who, I will yell at them.

this is much gentler on the latch

I get used to it now. I grab the inside handle, and close it just enough most of the time in one swift fluid motion so it clicks, then the auto closer kicks in

same here. while this is not perfect (like the ls460) i think it's a good addition. just like the auto door closure on the ls460. i don't need people to slam on my doors/trunk all the time

I do not really know why Lexus did not go ahead and add automatic trunk open/close function like in RX350's tailgate???

It irritates me whenever I have to use the trunk, because right after I close the trunk... I have to get a microfiber towel to wipe off my finger prints... (I know that on the inside of the trunk it has a handle for closing, but I do not like to slam my trunk either!!!)

with that automatic opener, it will probably add like 50-100 lbs of mechanism for that to work

you people are really lazy

do what i do, pull down the trunk with the inner handle and when the trunk is sitting flat, give a push with the palm of your hand on top of the rear trunk spoiler just enough for the automatic trunk to close it

no finger prints and very gentle on the trunk

yeah! it's so useless. it's just one more thing that will break in 5 years, after warranty has expired.
and judging from lexus' crappy reputation with gears (e.g side mirrors), it's gonna be another costly fix. I don't think i'll bother fixing it then.

slamming the trunk is one swift movement. and it doesn't break anything. Just look at all the old cars with trunk intact.

Yeah...I hate fingerprints also...sooo
I pull half way down with the inside handle and then with my thumb on one of the license plate screws I close the trunk until it clicks.
