Default GS TPMS Sensors (having two wheel sets)

How do the GS's TPMS sensors work at change-over when you have two sets of wheels?

I've never had "summer tires" on a car before and I'm looking at getting a second set of rims and winter tires. When changing from one set to the other, is there some automated sensor "re-registration" or set of steps that makes that happen?

There is an A/B switch just below the outside of your glovebox on the left most side. Set A is for your factory TPMS, Set B is for a secondary set of wheels.

Anyone know how much it costs to have the second set programed?

Its always good to know you have a 2nd set of wheels (stocks) in case anything happens. Or a long road trip.

just had it done 2 weeks ago.
each sensor was $106 and each required a "fitting kit" for $5.63

For my new set, they charged me $191 to mount the new tire on the rim, install the new TPMS sensors on the rim, road force balance each and program all 4 new sensors in as set B.

Lexus is particular about the TPMS. They use Pacific brand sensors and will not program other aftermarket sensors into the ECU.

I hope this helps.

$448 for sensors and another $191 to install. $639 in total... damn thats a lot. Sounds right, but damn!!!

As for programming, its around 100 bucks.

I thought there were no such thing as aftermarket sensors made yet. only dealer item.

what is the exact process in mounting and programming the sensors?
I just got a set of rims, but Im sure my lexus dealer will not mount them on my 20's. I will have to take it to a tire shop to get the sensors installed and mounted, Do i have to pre-program the sensors before the tires are mounted or do i just get the sensor installed, tired mounted, and then bring it to lexus to proram?

thanks

I just left them on my winter wheels. Much easier.

i think it will be easier to get ur sensors programmed before the tires are mounted. i have a second set of tpms going into my new wheels, this is what i'm planning to do.

Yeah, the right thing to do is get them programmed before installing them. From what I have read, others have installed them only for the dealership to have to unmount them to get the #s and yada yada so they can be programmed to your car. Then others have said that they just use a tool and place it near the tire/sensor and it picks up the info.

Play it safe and get them programmed before. Thats what I did and I have had no problems.

The old safe way to do it was definitely to write down all sensor IDs before installation for programming purposes. Otherwise, come programming time, you'd have to break the wheel assembly to get the code, etc.

The devices out there that "read" the sensors when already installed unfortunately do not work on our cars. However, the shop foreman at my dealership told me two weeks ago that Lexus just released a tool that will allow them to read the sensor IDs, so this is good news!

Lexus wants you to use "Lexus" sensors. I purchased mine from my dealer. You can get them online Lexus parts dealers for a little less then over your local Lexus parts counter. Keep in mind the 06 sensors are a different part number from the 07/08 sensors.
