One thing that Hyundai could've thought out better was offering an AWD
variant.
RWD is just a sales killer in the snow belt. I know the TL is fugly and is
now everyone's favorite whipping boy, but I would be choosing a TL over
most RWD cars in New England regardless of badge...
variant.

I might as well chime in with my $0.02 as a former 2006 Lexus GS430 owner. For me, the badge on the hood means very little (I've owned everything from Ford and VW to Honda/Acura, BMW & Lexus). I try to look at the car itself and make my purchases based on my needs/wants at the time. The Genesis is a GREAT car at a very good price. It does many things better than my GS430 IMO. It rides better, is noticeably quieter, feels just as fast, has significantly greater rear seat accomodations, and is a far superior value. I also don't have any rattles (yet), unlike my first-year GS430 which had various pops from the Sunroof/A-Pillar and sporadic rattles after just a few hundred miles. If some of you are able to remain open minded enough to drive one I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.
FWIW, it seems I'm not alone in "stepping down" to a Genesis (watch from 6:00 - 7:20): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QObP6...read.php?t=267
More on my Genesis for those interested:

Nope, it's the six cylinder. Still, I've been pleasantly suprised by how much power it has. It feels as quick as my GS430, and in reality it shouldn't be too far off. The V8 does 0-60 in 5.6-5.7 seconds and Hyundai claims the V6 is only .5 second slower (mainly due to the fact that the V6 is approx. 250 lbs. lighter).
On a somewhat related sidenote, the ESC on the Genesis is less intrusive than the VDIM on my GS.....I accelerated around a sharp turn the other day and the side stepped out a bit. Fun!

I just got back from driving a Genesis and I'm really impressed! The car was a V6 (no v8s available yet) with most everything except NAV. Sticker is $36,000 even. The car only had about 150 miles on it, so I did not push it very hard, but slow speed acceleration (up to about 50) is a bit faster than either the GS350 or M35.

The Grill and the interior needs work, overall its a nice car for the price. Is the Genesis going to be a mega hit for Hyandai, No, it will not, but it will sell its share. Competition is good, I am sure Lexus, MB and BMW are watching. They will have to figure out how to make the customers justify the higher price they will spend on a BMW, MB or Lexus. In the end, the consumer wins.

I agree with all your points.

It looks like a very nice car. I would consider one in a couple years, except for the fact that there is no AWD or Front Wheel Drive. My wife insists on this living in Minnesota.
1 question. Did this car come with Run Flat tires?

I don't think the GS should worry about a thing!

I think there was something wrong with the car he drove honestly. He complains about the lack of knowledge by the salespeople, but his knowledge of the Genesis is lacking as well, and if the Aisin transmission is so bad how come I've never heard any complaints by any of the automotive press?
In other news, people will believe what they WANT to believe.
