Default Great for Lexus, but...

Where's the GS in all this hot mess?

Released 8.7.08,

http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/new...spx?ID=2008115

"For a 14th consecutive year, Lexus ranks highest in vehicle dependability, improving by 25 problems per 100 vehicles since 2007 to achieve a score of 120 PP100. Following in the top five rankings are Mercury, Cadillac, Toyota and Acura, respectively...

...In addition, Lexus garners six segment awards—the most of any nameplate in 2008—for the ES 330, GX 470, IS 300, LS 430, LX 470 and SC 430."

I don't see the GS listed anywhere. We drive a reliable brand, that is for sure, but I have had a lot of problems with squeks, rattles and noises from my car. It is a very nice car, great looking, well equipped...not bad for a $58,262 sticker. I wonder if I had bought an Acura TL for almost half the price if I would have had this trouble with the noises, etc. Lexus is certainly more refined, nicely equipped and classy make, but I have been a little disappointed with the GS line in some ways. I think Acura and Honda...even Landrover down at the bottom of the list...know how to put lighted buttons on the steering wheel and overhead to operate the sunfoof...and the interior light buttons. God that bothers the hell out of me...

Thoughts? Is anyone surprised that GS is not on JD's new list?

No IS 250 or IS 350 on that list too.
I had a IS 250AWD that had it's share of creaks and rattles.
The GS 350 has the same creaks and rattle issues.
I don't have any now on my GS but was told by my service advisor,I'll have them when the cold weather arrives.
It's been the same issue on the GS fore 3 years.
Why hasn't Lexus addressed this old issue?

I don't have squeak and rattle issues...my complaints are about the thin coating on some of the interior surfaces. I have small tears in my seat (where the keys in my pocket rub against the seat), the b-pillar covering where your body rubs getting in/out of the narrow door-way and the rear door sills.

I still think the 3GS is a great car and deserves to be listed.

The IS250/350 is not yet 3 years old, not in the market long enough for this study.

Not surprised but I do have the very same complaints as you do. Steering wheel, overhead, door arm switches/buttons all need better lighting. I thought Lexus figured it out and improved when refresh the GS last year... maybe not

"The study, which measures problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old (2005 model year) vehicles"..................
So it's not in this mix.

it's funny. i just went to the local ABC affiliate (WPVI) webpage www.6abc.com to read something at lunch and this story was on the front page...but the picture of the car is a GS...with side marker turn indicators...weird...and the GS wasn't even mentioned in the report...guess the GS is the best looking car they could find...that i will agree with...i think it is a very nice looking car, despite my problems with it...

yes. you would have plenty of rattles and squeaks with the TL.

this problem is posted all over the internet

it's just unacceptable in a $50000 car.

lexus probably never put the car on a shaking machine like Hyundai does.

i wonder if Hyundais have rattles.

Does Hyundai have a shaking machine in a refrigerated room?
I read and been told by a Lexus service advisor in most cases, the rattles and creaks appear in cold weather.
No issues with my GS now, anyway.

they don't build em like they used to

yea Lexus is aware of the drop in quality control, they blamed it on explosive growth in the recent years...

It's 103 Degrees outside right now....I have rattles and creeks.

Myth Busted! I should be a Mythbuster!

Also, my 2003 LS430 UL that I just traded in had some very annoying rattles and creeks also. The area around the top of the naviation (where the plastic met the dash) would creek and rattle and **** ME OFF!.

Also, the door that hid the ash tray would creek.

It's not just the GS. Both my SCs and my old old GS had the same issues.
