I am thinking of replacing my IS350 with something larger. I have test driven both the GS and the LS and liked both of them.
I actually love my IS, but getting in and out of it is killing me. I am 6'3" and 200 pounds. Being 60 years old does not help either!
My question is: Has anyone owned both cars and what are their thoughts about each. Or, why did you chose one over the other? Most of my driving is in the west side of Los Angeles where the traffic really sucks!
My other vehicles are: 1999 Ford Lightning, 2008 Acura MDX, 2001 GS 430 (wife's car 8,000 miles) and my IS350 which I would sell if I upgrade to a GS or an LS.
I really like the room in an LS, but wonder if I would get bored with it very quickly and want something else. Sounds crazy, but it almost seems too nice. Thanks for taking the time too read this post, Skip

That is correct. Actually I think it is a little under 8,000. She just goes shopping and to the market. When we go out we always take my car.
I bought my mother a LS430 in August of 1989 and when she died in 2006 at 92 years old , her car had less than 16,000 miles on it. Car was like new inside and outside.

man they are both great cars. I am happy with my GS but intend to graduate to the LS in the future. I would love to own own one with a set of 22's and a lowered suspension. DAMN I think I just got a little excited. Anyway have fun with the looking around. I am sure both cars will make you happy. The LS is a big jump from the IS. congrats!!!

The LS is nice but I'm not blown away by it.
My son in law has an '08 and I expected more when I drove the car and was a passenger.
Maybe I expected too much but I thought the ride would be smoother and again, the highway wind noise.Though not as bad as the GS,it's there.
The car is quick, gets great gas mileage and the ML is superb in that car.
His car listed for $73K and change and he paid $65K.Not bad but I wouldn't buy an LS.

Hi Skip.
I've owned the LS460L (sold it to out-of-state-family a year ago), and still have my IS350. Although I have not owned the 3GS, I've driven it quite a few times.
Coming from the 2IS (especially the 350), I think you will be disappointed with the handling and "feel" of the LS460. Although the car does have a lot of luxury amenities and technological upgrades, it does become "boring" after a while. It NEVER feels fast. Now, it's perfect for travelling with passengers, but when used as a daily driver for one person alone, it does seem to be a waste (and it L.A. traffic, it's too indulgent). That's one of the reasons I got rid of mine.
For the 3GS, the ride is more enthusiastic and in control, albeit still not as sporty as the 2IS. However, you can modify the 3GS moreso than the LS, if you so desire. Having a V6 option instead of the V8 alone is a plus, and the GS350 is quite peppy, which is sufficient when compared to the underpowered GS460 and the numb-feeling LS460. Also, the interior room of the 3GS is more favorable than the 2IS.
In short, I think the GS350 will suffice if you want to upgrade from the IS350. And although the LS460 has more room and technology, I don't find it cost-effective when it doesn't provide the sport, gas efficiency, and functionality of the GS350 in L.A. traffic.
