You are not going to find too many used car dealer that will negociate price or trade in price over the phone or on the internet.

Default Offended is kind of the wrong word

I can't say offended I guess because that conveys a personal afront. Working in marketing, business development and sales I think I was surprised at what a complete lack of actually selling was going on. Shade the truth, promise things you might not be able to deliver, hell lie to me, but get me in your place or get and keep me engaged in the sales process. As Ben Afleck's character in Boiler Room said "Act is if".

If that dealer has the exact used Lexus you're looking for color, options and mileage wise,I'd go and try and get a deal on it.If you can't get the deal you want, walk away.
They lose $$$ and it cost you some time.
Phone deals on used cars especially with a trade in rarely works,if ever.
The thing is with a used car,if that dealer has what you want, you may not find another for a long time.
I'd go there and talk to the sales manager about the phone experience.
Maybe you'll get a better deal or at least a head may roll.

someone else said. the 'internet sales manager' may not be the Sales Manager like you are thinking. It's either poor technique or low motivation for whatever impossible to predict reason. still might be worth going in for a look even tho it's a hike. big purchase. worth the time. my 2 cents

That dealership is retarded. My last 3 cars I dealt over the phone including trade ins. I even had two trades for one car (Lexus) and it was all done over the phone.

I tell them this is how much I wanna pay for your car and this is how much I want for mine. You say your car is top notch, I say mine is top notch. If my **** isn't like I say it is, then it's fine you can adjust your trade in price, but that's not gonna happen b/c that's really how my car is (top notch!). And that's it. I even made a dealer drive 6 hours to me to deliver my car and take my trade in

Default Too much?

I'm not sure that it is too much, it certainly is the absolute low from dealers within 300 miles of me. Its a couple thousand less in fact. I'm not interested in buying from and individual or a non-Lexus dealer, and I want certified so maybe there is a premium. But the particular one I was looking at was the lowest - take a look at AutoTrader and do a search that covers Chicago and 200 miles out.

Some examples similar equipment and certified:
$39,744
Mileage: 20,558

$38,744
Mileage: 35,318

$37,900
Mileage: 28,189

$37,633
Mileage: 36,702

These are high, no?

You should get at least get 10% off an asking price on a used car.
Even on a certified car.
