Default Has Anyone Tried the Lexus Interface Kit for iPod??

I have an 07 GS430 and I am sick of not being able to use my iPod OR my new iPhone in the car. Lexus, as you all probably know, charges $300 for the "kit" wires (that's all it looks to be...wires) and then whatever for installation. I would really prefer to go with the Lexus kit but I think $300 is absolutely insane, especially since my iPhone was only $300. I can't find the kit from Lexus on eBay. I would really prefer to buy this kit for less money. If anyone has the kit, could you let me know where you got it and how? Also if you installed it or had the Lexus dealer or someone else do it, how that all went. Also I read that the iPod goes into the glove compartment using the Lexus kit. I would rather run it to the console. Has anyone tried that?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for all your feedback in advance!!

flipside909 has it and we installed it together

good thing putting in glove is you don't have to drill holes

doing it in the armrest, i haven't checked in very details, but i would assume you need to drill

i bought it from sewell online. it was horrible! sound quality is fine. and no, u dont have to drill any holes. that really depends where u want it though. i had the adapter going under the center console and up the empty slot near the coin holder.

it was horrible because user interface is an atrocity! navigating to select the song/artist u want is not easy. also, the shuffle function didnt seem to work well. it tended to repeat a certain song over and over.

i installed it and returned it promptly after 2 weeks. Sewell refused to give me a refund because it was installed!!! even though the dude on the phone said it was find to RMA it for whatever reason. but another dude wouldnt refund me because he said it was installed! so i told him to send me back the unit so i can sell on ebay instead of it just sitting there. unbelievable!!!

fyi, i ended up getting the vais video ipod adapter! for $300 bux, its worth it! the user innterface is a lot easier to use! AND you can browse through the files in your playlist/artist/genre. the lexus kit will NOT let you see the files within the playlist. so you will not see what song is next or previous. the current song file is truncated too! the vais unit will let you see all the infos of a song.

I will consider the Vaistech, too. Either there was a problem with my internet connection yesterday or their site was down around 4 eastern. Has anyone who installed this themselves had any luck? I guess if the Lexus unit is $300 and the Vaistech is $300, it comes down to what is a better solution. From reading posts here, it sounds like nobody likes the Lexus unit and the Vaistech is a better bet. If I decided to go with this "Package 4" they have available, would the video playback on the DVD screen function work while in motion, or would the parking brake have to be applied? Thanks again!

So even this far along Lexus can't get an iPod kit right?

There must be some hatred for Apple at Lexus or something.

if u want to watch video in motion, u have to do the nav hack by cutting wires n stuffs. the vais unit wont do it for u. without the hack, the only way to watch video is with the emergency brake applied. the hack isnt that hard.

I have the lexus ipod kit and its the shizzle. Its been nothing but reliable, and best of all it a lexus part. You can buy it , have it installed all in the same day. easier than the vais tech and you can have the dealership warranty the lexus part, not aftermarket parts. I would stick with the oem kit
