GS350 Brake Pad TSB
I am having my 5,000 mile service on my GS350 next week. A posting on another forum indicated an owner with only 200 miles on his GS350 had the brake pads replaced for free (without even asking) because of a "free upgrade". I am concerned because I saw a posting indicating the factory pads only last 15,000 miles. So, will they upgrade my pads to the "low dust" (long life) pads for free if I ask? How do I phrase it? Thanks in advance.

All you really got to do is complain that the front wheels have excess dust and you are unhappy with it and mention the TSIB. If they're really **** about how you know of it just mention the TSIB BR002-06 - ALTERNATIVE FRONT BRAKE PADS (REVISED). Just to let you know, most people(including me) have noticed a decrease in braking performance with the new pads. There are some people that said it felt the same, so I guess they're pretty lucky. However, why wouldn't Lexus just put the same high performance brake pads with no dust to begin with if they truly were the same performance.

IMO, if the dust does not bother you that much; I would wait till before TSIB warranty runs out (2yr/24k).
This way you can get a brake job for free, when I had my replaced they also resurface the rotors for free!!!
Since dust did bother me, so I had them replaced at 2,000 miles.

My front brakes were completely worn after 25k miles. Dealership replaced them for free under the TSB using the low dust pads. Rotors were resurfaced as well. All is good with me.

Tommy, that TSB doesnt cover the 08 GS. You have to work with your dealer to get them replace. The new pad are less grabby during everyday driving but about the same in emergency braking.

Yep, I second that. I took my car to get these pads replaced and there is no TSB for the 08's. My advisor told me to call 1-800-25-LEXUS to file a complaint and I did just that. The more calls they get, the better the possibility of having a TSB for the 08's.

what? where does it say the TSIB is only in effect until 24k miles???
can someone post the tsib again?
my brakes are starting to squeak, and i think i'll have to bring it in soon anyhow

Had the TSIB done at 5K. now at 15k but experiencing squeaky brakes. going into dealer tommorrow for oil/cabin filter change and brake check. Had I known if my choices were squeaky brakes/no brake dust or stickier brakes/brake dust. i would of chose the brake dust. nothing worst than driving around in a nice Lexus with brakes squealing. lame.

I'll probably say something to the dealer when I go in for the 1000 mile personalization service. Although, like a previous post...I'd rather deal with dust than squeaks.
