Default Extended Warranty

I was wondering if anyone knows the cost of an extended warranty on the 3gs. I just extended my wifes warranty on her 2006 TL for 2300 dollar. I hope the lexus is less than 3k. If anyone has any idea let me know.

2300? is that a ripoff? even the extended warranty offered on my ls460l was far less.... like 1600 or 1800

when we got our gs350, i believe the extended warranty was offered to us for 1200 or so

$2,300???? Is this a typo? You paid $2,300 for a warranty on an Acura in its third year of the model cycle? You just threw at least $2,000 of that down the toilet! How could you possibly allow yourself to be ripped off like that?

I have spoken to many members at acurazine.com ( acura forum) and they all say 2250 is the standard. I did think it was a little high, but I dont need headaches. My infiniti was 1600 for the extended warranty so I was a little shocked, but it is what it is. I have money what I dont have is a completely covered car until 100k miles. Its my wifes car. she is a turn key driver, mneaning as long as the thing starts and runs she is good to go. I had a friend who had a 2nd gen acura tl that needed a trasmission. I want to play it safe, especially with my wifes car.

I still dont think its a rip off if its the industry standard for that car. If they charged 4k for the warranty that would be a rip off. I am glad to hear that the GS extended warranty is much cheaper. I will have it extended at the next oil change. 1200 is not alot of money.

Its only a rip off if its more costly than the industry standard for coverage for the vehicle. I want the car covered no matter what, I dont like risking it with older cars, plus I am **** as hell and I like the option to complain at any age of the car. The service department is more of a pit crew to me than a group of guys who "maintain" my car. I like the car to run perfectly for me and my wife. To do that you need the warranty or you just keep making exceptions to the standard of the car until it becomes a piece of **** because the owner was to cheap to cover the car. Then later the attitude is , I dont want to spend a lot of cash to repair an old car. then the car falls further into disarray and disrepair. Next you will be running around trying to dump the car and you will get hosed bfecause its in poor shape. I figure I will have the car covered until its paid off then I can sell it or keep it with the sound mind knowing that the car was very very very well taken care of.

My 2nd generation TL also needed a transmission replacement, but it was covered under a 100K mile warranty offered by Acura for free due to a known issue with the transmissions in that car. I also had a 3rd generation TL (a 2004), and I'd like to reiterate that you threw $2,300 into the toilet. Given the reliability record for that car the odds that your wife's car will require that much in repairs over the remaining life of the warranty are less than 1 in 1,000. There's probably nothing you can do now that you purchased the policy (although some are refundable), but I would highly recommend doing research next time before spending that much money (e.g. reading Consumer Reports).

By the way, what difference does it make whose car it is? It is not like the extended warranty will prevent your wife's car from braking down on the highway. It's a financial insurance only, not a magic wand.

Sorry, but I don't follow your logic at all. If you have the $2,300 to spend on the extended warranty, and you want the peace of mind, you could put it in a separate savings account earning interest and wait for a breakdown. Odds that a TL will experience breakdowns exceeding $2,300 until it reaches 100K miles are miniscule, and you'd likely still have most of the $2,300 (plus interest) to enjoy when you decide to sell the car without sacrificing much of that peace of mind.

Wondering what the mileage / months limit would be on the $1200 extended warranty? Does it extend the factory warranty from 48 months / 50K miles to 72 months / 100K miles? When I bought my GS they offered prepaid service & prepaid service with extended warranty included. Dont remember the exact cost but I know it was MUCH more than $1200 (maybe $5000). Since I paid cash I did not want to spend another $5000 up front.

that sound a lot more realistic than 1200 dollars. what are we driving ??? honda accords. I am expecting it to be a least 3000 dollars. what ever it is I will get my car covered. Its only a rip off if you cant afford it imho. I dont gamble with my car or peace of mind. I always drive perfect cars. Once they get to 100k miles its time to start shopping for a new ride unless the car is flawless. I will usually dump the car when it starts to act up, but before it screws me. My infiniti needed a slew of ABS/ brake work at 98000 miles. My GS required 1700 dollar mirrors, and 2 900 dollar door panels, and a sterering wheel that cost close to a thousand dollars at 20000 miles. I want my cars perfect all of the time

My dealer quoted me $1850 for 6yrs/100K for the Platinum Program but I ended up getting 7yrs/100k for free because the lied about getting the car that I wanted. They have different levels like Gold and Silver which only cover certain things. Here is the link to the Lexus website with the prices.

yes, 72/100, loud and clear. it does not include prepaid services, just extended warranty. so yours is apple to orange. like i said, my previous sc430 and ls460l were both more expensive than the gs350, with the ls460l topping over 80k. and even that car the extended warranty wasn't more than 2000 bucks. what else can i say.

i will just say this, I8ABMR. don't make it sound like you have the money and you are right, money don't mean crap to some people here. if you want to throw out 3k for extended warranty and feel like you do the right thing, by all means, no one is going to stop you, and i'd be more than happy to refer you to my sales guy so he can have a nice extra bonus for the month.

and if it's really nothing to you, then why bother asking it here, just go to dealership and buy whatever. just don't ask us anymore (since you think paying 1200 means we are all driving accords, which i guess some would take as an insult), you don't need help

I8ABMR -
These items were covered under the factory warranty, right?
I presume your point is the car will need many expensive repairs (not just 5K services) during it's life, even early on.

I looked at this web site.
It appears that one can wait until close to the expiration of the 48 month / 50K mile factory warranty before buying the extended warranty.
Is that correct? Obviously I would want to keep the $2000 in MY pocket for the 4 years if I could.
Thanks.
