Congrats, I was looking at the a6 too recently. Stuck between that or a used LS right now. Who knows maybe a used s6 as well.

Its not just the rattles, its a lot more. I had the GS at the dealer 4 times last year. They fix the dash rattle but new rattles are starting to develope around the driver door and sunroof. The fits and finish is not the same once the dealer took the dash apart. Aside from that, my biggest complain is the suspension. A car that handles like the GS should have a much softer ride or a car that is stiff like the GS should handle much better. The Japanese have nothing over the Germans when it comes to suspension design, the Audi A6's suspension for example is much softer than the GS' but it handles the corner as well as the GS. The A6 is also much quieter on the highway and it has a nicer interior. Reliability is important, but suspension design, highway noise and build quality is important too.

Hey Gman, keep in touch...I'd like to hear about the improved Audi reliability. The people I know with one are upset and disappointed but none have one that's 2 years or newer.
I am considering the A/S5 so I'd like to know what's going on with Audi.
So many people complain about rattles with the GS. I don't understand that. I get rattles when I turn my subwoofer up but nothing from the dash. Maybe I just got cars made on the day the techs were feeling good. I do wish the GS was more sporty but I can live with it after doing the mods.

Too bad your dealer was not able to get your GS 'on track'. My dealer has been excellent.

I consider my GS350 just about the perfect car now. I hope you feel the same way about your new Audi.

Are there any car out there that is perfect? GS is a great car, but perfect it is not.

As to the newer Audi's reliability, Audi just top the list in the consumers' Top Rated Vehicle Awards for 2008 from Edmunds:

I traded out of an 05.5 Audi S4 back in november of 07 for the IS350 I had. I can tell you I had NO rattles like I did in the IS and the car was solid. It was leased car and I beat the **** out of it. One of the reason I parted ways was I had double the mileage I should have and washed out clean and the Gas I was going through in the car for DD was insane. I am sorry the car was much better then my first Lexus. The GS seems to be much more solid then the IS and I dont have rattles, its used, so they may have taken care of them or its just that much better then the IS. I wanted an Audi but the trade in for the IS was killing me. IMO I think you made a great choice! That S6 is looking pretty HOT But I am okay with the GS for a few years and see what is out at that point. I kind of want to force myself to keep this car and get a toy again to really have fun with and enjoy.

thanks G Man! i think you will really enjoy the A6, and since it's pretty "mature" in its model cycle, it should not give you any headaches. plus you will love Quattro - i miss having it; quattro just gives you such a sense of stability and control around turns.

I got the Quartz grey, I know, very boring color The Audi Quattro use the same Torsen center differantial as the Lexus GX and LX, they are fantastic in the snow and the slippery stuff.

Just pick up my Audi A6 today, I am a happy camper. The Audi has less power than the GS, you can tell that right away, especially off the line. Haven’t play with the sports mode or the tiptronics yet.
The slightly less power is more than made up for by the handling and the ride. The ride is as smooth as an ES350, but the handling is better than the GS. I took the same turn I do everyday to work, with the GS I max out at about 35 MPH before the car starts to lean too much, with the A6, I can do 45 MPH before it starts to lean. The A6 is also quieter on the highway and pretty smooth over bumps. After driving Japanese cars for 10 years, now I just have to get use to the German ergonomics, its much different from the Japanese'.
