yeah, I took the car in this morning, they're supposed to call me when they figure out what they're going to do about the squeaking. as Murphy's Law would have it, the brakes weren't squeaking and my F-Sport thumping sound was silent this morning /ofcourse.

I told the service advisor that I would like to have the TSB if it's available. I had the TSB for high brake dust done at the 750 mile mark, so these "new" brakes only have about 8250 miles on them...well below any sort of BS wear-n-tear threshhold.

The service manager @ Johnson Lexus in Raleigh got approval from their district manager to replace my front pads with low dust pads free of charge... Apparently, the previous owner had Lexus change them in Sept. 09 and they put the high friction pads on - not the low-dust pads.

Needless to say... I'm HAPPY!

service guys couldn't replicate the squeaking I was hearing, so nothing was changed/fixed on the brakes. they've been quiet the last few days, so I'll keep an ear out for them.

has anyone gone with aftermarket pads & rotors? if so, is the problem still there?

anybody changed out the calipers? if so, is the problem still there?

I agree, if the rotors and pads are replaced there must be a design problem with the calipers. I can deal with the dust but the noise is rediculous.

Do you know what the latest TSIB number for excessive brake dust and squeaking is? My 08 GS350 AWD is squeaking really bad. It is so embarassing when I brake and people around my car. Is TSIB L-SB-0155-09? Please chime in.

taking the car in Wednesday to have new pads, shims and rotors. at least that's what the service advisor said they had to order in order to do the TSB. I have no idea which TSB they're planning to do, but as long as they don't put the high friction or low dust (squeaking) brakes back on, I'll be fine. until they start squeaking again. FYI, 2008 AWD GS got horrible ratings from Consumer Reports regarding the braking system.

jtrue28, what did you tell the service rep about the problems of your brakes? Dust or squeaking or others? I know the brake TSIB is under 48 months / 50,000 miles warranty. Do you have any brake pad life left concern with this fix? Can you share once you know what TSIB is after the service? Thanks.

Got the car back this afternoon. They applied TSB L-SB-0040-09. This TSB apparently included new rotors (part # 43512-30350 and 43516-30040), new pads (04465-30450) and shim kit (04945-30330).

I had the dustless brakes put on at about 680 miles and this TSB was done with 9,551 miles, so I got roughly 9,000 miles out of the dustless brakes before the squeaking got to be unbearable.

The first test will be tomorrow morning when I leave for work, in terms of squeaking. I'll also keep an eye on how much dust these put out and performance, and report back.

So, after 1 week with the new brakes, here's the results so far.

Squeaking - None! (10 out of 10)
Dust - more than the dustless but less than the original high performance pads (6 out of 10)
Performance - Little better than the dustless (7 out of 10)

Overall I think I'm happy. I'm ecstatic about no noise, but am worried the dust will again get on my nerves. Brakes can't be this hard to develop, what in the hell is wrong with Lexus?!?

UPDATE: I'll report back on brake dust again once I'm able to wash my car by hand. I'm fairly positive our Lexus dealer doesn't clean the wheels very good when they "wash" the vehicle after service. If that's the case, my wheels haven't been really washed in several weeks....

18K miles / 15 months after the 0040-09 TSB was performed, the squealing noise is back. The brake dust is very much gone.
I also got the dustless pads put on, but then the squeaking got to be unbearable.
I had to wait until the TSB 0040-09 came out.
