Any way of telling if a 3GS has laser cruise from pics?
I was looking at some pics of 3GS' for sale and was wondering where the laser cruise is located on these cars. Is there a way of telling if a non-hybrid 3GS has laser from pics of the front? I know that the hybrid units have the glass or plastic "shield" Lexus symbol in front. Is this a characteristic of hybrid or is this where the laser cruise is similar to the LS?

On a non-hybrid Lexus, a plastic shield over the front "L" emblem indicates that the vehicle has radar cruise control and pre-collision. Also on the interior you will see a little plastic tab hanging down from the right hand side of the steering wheel as seen in picture 2.
(But a non Hybrid won't have the blue glow, just the plastic)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, it will display RADAR READY, then you hit the tab to get the desired spacing between the car in front of you. This will display in the center speedo screen as rings, the fewer the closer. Then you set your speed and the car will keep you spaced out.
Hope that helps, haven't used it in a while...

Actually, the 3GS had Radar Cruise, not Laser Cruise. Laser was the older technology used on the 3rd generation LS.
RADAR READY will come on as soon as you activate the main Cruise Control on switch. Once you have set your desired speed, you can pull on the RADAR tab to set the distance you want to set between you and the vehicle in front. There are 3 settings. The closest setting allows 2 seconds or roughly 3 car lengths of distance in front of you. If you toggle up or down on the main Cruise Control switch, it will jump up or down in incraments of 5MPH. It maxes out at 88mph.
What is nice about this feature is it works very well in dense fog. I don't recommend you drive out in 0 visibility and try this but if you're cruising on the freeway and it's dark, the system will keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle or object in front of you. It will apply the brakes as necessary and resume your desired cruising speed once there are no obstacles in front.

The percentage of GS350s made with radar cruise is very small, from person experience I would say it is about 1 to 10 if not worse. On the other hand, if you find an 07 450h, it is a very very high likelihood that you will find one with radar cruise, most in that time frame came FULLY LOADED. I believe that the 430 is somewhere in between too.

The plastic cover as someone stated is also the dead giveaway.
