Default Issue with windshield

I had my windshield replaced last week with Lexus windshield. Today it rained and to my surpise, the rain drop did not bead on the glass. Instead it spread out to form a sheet of water making visibility very poor between wiper wipes. What's wrong with it? Is the glass defective?

not necessarily, but sometimes the windshield sits outside in the open for so long the water spots got deep and hard. try to use windex (be careful on paint) and also clay bar to see if you can remove them

I had mine replaced two weeks ago and it has been raining here for the past 3 days and I have had no issue. Try what rominl recommends.

I demoted my KAIO for the glass and it works like a charm. It's a chemical polish/cleaner and leaves a light acrylic protection over it. Like when used on paint, it causes water to sheer off more easily when driving. I heard RainX works too, but might cause wipers to chatter.

That's the thing. I tried rain x thinking it would help. It didn't do anything. Water still just spread into a sheet instead of bead up.

I beleive the side glass on the GS is water repellent, not the windshield.

i did do the work at the dealership. the side glass is water repellant but the windshield should at least bead up the water as well. Trying dropping a drop of water on your windshield. instead of spreading out, it should be a nice round water bead like I had with my old windshield.

the front is not, but i know what mcyc is talking about, coz' that's what happened on my sc430 replacement and it was a pain in the butt to get it back to "normal"

I've never noticed that. I didn't know my glass was water repellent. No wonder I can see well even in the rain. And believe me, Texas has been getting some rain the past few days.

so rominl, how did you get your SC430 back to normal? By the way, I just realized that they didn't put the windshield right either. it makes a whistling sound at 80+ mph. Also, the glass is higher on one side and at the bottom, I can see where the dash bends down.

So much for dealer glass being better than after market glass.

ok that's not right, seems like installation got pretty wrong. go back and have it redone

for me, clay bar, a lot of buffing, and polish did the job

please make it clear, how is that a manufacturer problem? it's a matter of glass storage as well as installation. you put a glass out in the open under all weather and i can care less where it's from, result will be the same
