Picked up my GS300 last Saturday. Didnt like the tires that it came with. It came with Bridgestone Protenza RE050A 225/50/17 which is stock.
I dont like summer tires where I live and needed a good all season tire.
I decided on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus in the same size and same speed rating.
I have not mounted them yet, but notice that the Michelin's are not as tall as the Bridgestone even though they are the same size 225/50/17
I used a ruler and the side wall on the Bridgestone is 3 1/2 inches and the Michelin's are only 3 inches.
Can someone explain:
1. If they are the same size, why would the sidewall be shorter on the Michelin's
2. Does this effect handling
3. Does it affect speedometer.
4. Any disadvantage to the tire being that the sidewall is smaller ?
Thanks to everyone. I love the car even though its my wifes.

tires with same spec can all look very different. some are narrower, some are wider, some has a bit taller sidewall, some are more meaty, etc... that's just how they are. the spec is more of a reference, it's not an "absolute" number. that's exactly why for those who have wheels that are aggressive, tires brand / model can also be an issue, not just the "size"
dont worry, as long as the spec are the same, you are good
