What the heck they say the transmission fluid are a completely sealed unit and therefore periodic checks and replacement of the fluid are not required and there is no dipstick on the transmission on these vehicles. Any repairs that require adding or replacing fluid should be performed by a qualified technician
Ummm....if there isnt a dipstick and the unit is sealed how is someone able to find out if the fluid is low and needs adding???

a fluid indicator light will come on in your dash if there is an issue. if that occurs take your car to the dealer (toyota or lexus) and they'll hook it up to a scan tool.

i had a customer with an '07 Tundra 5.7L V8 with 59876 miles and he decided to do his own service at home for the first time. he unbolted the drain plug to drain the oil, after all the oil was drained he noticed that it's reddish so he called the dealership to ask why. i asked him what he was doing and replied that he was changing the oil. at this point i had the feeling that he unbolted the wrong drain plug 'coz of his concern of a reddish fluid. i explained to him that the fluid he drained was the tranny fluid and not the engine oil and that he has a sealed tranny with world standard fluid. in short, he towed his Tundra to the dealer and he needed a new tranny since the original unit has been unsealed. not covered by warranty so he had to pay $5700.00+ for the new one. OUCH!!!

On owner's manual, it showed the only thing needs to be replaced @ 30k was "ENGINE OIL," everything else is just visual inspection!!!

It should cost less than $30 bucks if you bring your own Mobil1, they only charged me for the oil filter and labor!!!

yes as a matter of fact I did. Most of the service bays at Herb Chambers are fully viewable to the customers., They did a power flush, had the big container on top of my reservoir, etc. It wasn't just syphoning out what was in the reservoir, add new then bleed the brakes.

Why are you so cynical, did you get burned once?

Actually, on more than one occasion I saw the service doing just that, “siphoning out what was in the reservoir” with a turkey baster and add fluid. Oh, bleed brakes, not a chance.

Not with brake service. However, I will not let Lexus do maintenance on my car if at all possible. Three strikes and they are out.. Overfill oil, scratch rims, dint door, and worst of all, lying. I have seen too much at these dealerships that win so called “awards”. Cynical? I think they earned the distrust. I even saw a LS430 on a lift and they did not align the lift point on the pinch weld correctly and it damaged the rocker panel. I snapped a photo as I was just appalled. They left it on the lift like that over the weekend. I bet they did not even notice what they did. I bet they attempted to return the car to the owner hoping they would not notice.

GS2006, I have heard similar stories about other make dealership service centers as well. I would find a new dealership if I were you. Unfortunately I can't condem all dealership service centers based on the actions of a few non-caring mechanics/service managers. I have a good relationship with Herb Chambers in MA and they do right by me.........at least so far.

good luck.

Also it kinda is a good idea to take to dealer because they know what to look for as in problems also incase there was a manufacture defect that weren't found when bought new

WOW! $30 and you supplied the materials? I guess that's better than $150 at t eh stealership.

I just did mine myself for $40 Mobil 1 oil and $10 filter.
