hey guys.. I have a dilema... I own 06 GS300 and it just reached 30k.
I know im due for a major service. so tell me... should I go to the dealer and pay excessive amount money (i think) or bring the car to your mechanic you trust with the list of things to looked at.. ? so what kind of stuff should I tell the mechanic to look at... thanks in advance...

as i read in another thread on 30K service, take care of her and she will take care of you. i have an '06 gs430 and just got my 30K done. it was worth it as i have two jobs and dont have time to do any of the maintenance myself. also, if your car is still under warranty and have incurred some problems (ie., rattles, brake squeals, etc.), you can get the dealer to address those problems while your car is in for service.

Personally, I would not waste my money on those schedule service. Its all check this and check that, no real labor involve. Just change out your fluid, belts and filter according to schedule and you will be fine. If you do decide you have too much money on your hands and want to spend some of it on the GS, then I would try to find a trust mechanic and give him the check list from the Lexus manual for the 30 K service. Any average mechanic should be able to detect problems. The key is to tell them dont fix anything until they get your approval.

I would personally only do this at 30k:
1)Change Oil and Filter
2)Change Air Filter
3)Change Cabin Air Filter
4)Flush/Drain Transmission Fluid(Toyota claims its good for 100k miles but I dont agree)
5)IF AWD then Change Diff Fluid.
6)Rotate and inflate tires to factrory specs or your personal specs.
7)Inspect Engine bay for any other issues.

If you take it to a toyota dealership it shouldnt cost you more then $250 dollars.

the only thing I had done at my 30k by the dealership was fully flush the brake fluid and repalce with new.

Cabin filter, engine air filter, oil and oil filter were all changed by me (easy and much cheaper). The tranny is a sealed unit so doing a conventional tranny fluid drain and fill is kind of hard now. I will let this one and the diff fluid change go until 60k and then think it again.

My car is in for the 30k service as we speak and it $599 for a bunch of things to be inspected and they change oil and filter, A/C filter, air filter for the motor. Its a total rip off, but I dont want some clown at a pep boys touching my car

I'm in Texas and we have a shop here by the name of Davenport Motors...they service Lexus for a fair price. Service that you wouldn't believe...better than Lexus !!! The owner actually came out to greet and talk to me about my car since i was a newbie...

god they killed you on that.

all you need for 30k is oil change and brake fluid.

you can inspect coolant, steering, transmission leaks yourself.

take a look at the silly stuff they do on your owners manual booklet.

Brake fluid change is not included in that price. I believe that price is for an oil change, tire rotation, cabin and air filter. If you change the air and cabin filter and check the fluids yourdelf, the oil change and tire roatation should only cause $90.

They charged $548 today when I picked her up today. We have the money guys, we drive 50k cars. What I want is only lexus techs touching my car. Even if the car was 10 years old I only service my cars at the dealership. They do a better job and they are more aware of lexus design and maintenance procedures. To each his own, but my days of going to cheap unknowledgable mechanics are over. I did that when I was growing up because I had to .Now I can afford to send my cars to the dealership for service and thats the only place they will ever go. The dealership gaurantees the work with no arguments, the techs no every aspect of the car and can even access the ECU etc, they wash it, and they do check and adjust things when the car is there even if they are not on the service list

Remind me not to ask you any financial investment questions.

The way I am able to buy a 50k car is by NOT spending and extra $548 on a $30 procedure easisly done in my driveway. I would rather put the extra $518 into something I can get more use out of, like my retirement fund, a vacation, new tires for the 50k car when it comes time or even several dinners out with a very special person. Do you see where I am going with this?

Are you sure they fully flush the brake fluid? Did you actually see them do this?

No Flush/Drain on the Tranny fluid for the life of the car. The GS has a sealed tranny with an ATF fluid.
