Default 5K, 10K, & 15K service. what is done?

Hello all,

I just had the 10k service done on my girlfriends 08 AWD gs350.

it's cost a whopping $202.59 might as well punch me in the gut.

I didn't think a tire rotation and oil change can cost so much. I know some other minor stuff were done too.. but damn $200+ especially in this bad economic time.

My questions is how do you guys find out the list of things that needs to be serviced when it's time? For the future 15k service I would like to take it to my friends mechanic shop to have it serviced but would like to have everything checked/done that the dealer ship would normally do. I just need the to do check list. Where can I find that? will the car's navi system tell me that? It's not my car so I don't mess with it much.

Is there a site or is it in the manual?

I have alot of friends and family that own or work for a mechanic shop. If I could save money through them I would do that instead. Plus I know that they will take extra care of the car.

Appreciate all the help guys and gals.

it's in one of the manual that lists out the services

it's also on lexus.com under owner (registration required)

the parts are not what's making it so expensive, it's the $100+ / hr labor charge

There is a list on the Lexus site and its also on the manual, 10K service is an oil change, tire rotation, air filter, HVAC filter and check this and that. 15K is minus the air and HVAC filters.

Wow, over $200? I just had my 10K service this week on my 08 GS350 AWD and it was $119. I wonder why the discrepancy in price between what the two of us paid. I'm located in Chicago.

maybe it's the inflation of being in Silicon Valley. Lol. Damn $119 the gut punch would have felt better at that price. I have looked at other threads of people who have done the 10k service and it ranged from $150-200+ i think the based on dealerships they can charge whatever they like. go figure.

For $119, did they change your air and HVAC filter?

I was researching the 30K mile service and found two different prices.

Tustin Lexus - $850.00
Westminster Lexus - $350.00

hmmm...

Just called South Bay Lexus in Torrance CA (Southern CA). My '07 GS350 is approaching the 15K mile mark. I asked them for their price on the 15K mile service. Their response? (I hope you're sitting down) "About $340.00". But after careful consideration, that seems pretty reasonable when you factor in all the Vaseline they would need to supply after telling me to "bend over".

Quite honestly, I'm not sure what they did for the $119 they charged me. The invoice made it look like they just inspected a bunch of stuff but didn't really do any real work aside from changing the oil. :-)

Called Longo Lexus in CA. 15K mile inspection includes
1. oil/filter
2. clean air filter
3. rotate tires
4. re-torque something (didn't catch the word)
5. major inspection and road test
Cost: $194
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they essentially charging about $200 for what essentially is an oil change and tire rotation?

I asked the guy when he was working on the car what was done. He told me rotated the tires and oil change. I was like how much? he said $202.59. There was an additional $10 charge for travel to my home to service the car. So $194 sounds about right. I was like crap. I can do this stuff myself. He said yeah but the only thing i would need is a special tool which when he showed me was pretty much a tool to remove the oil filter.

I was like wth! that's a oil filter cup wrench. I'm paying you 200 bucks to rotate the tires and to do an oil change? I will do that next time myself. I definately will not be doing any future services with lexus unless it's covered under the warrenty.

your suplimental manual has a list of things lexus reccomends to do at each service. follow that to keep your warranty intact and dont fall for any additive packages.
