Default The high-mounted (AKA the third) brake light.

Does anybody know how to remove it. I want to tint my windows, but before that I want to remove the light, so they do a cleaner job tinting. Also, there seem to be some sort of an eye-looking sensor under the light, looking to the rear. What is it for? And will the tint affect what ever function that sensor has?

they shouldn't have to remove the brake light in order to tint the window. just need to make sure your shop is a good one. my shop installed tint without removing that

that sensor is the light sensor that helps adjust the brightness of your gauge cluster under different lighting condition

Thanks a lot, Dunnojack! Now, do you have any idea how to detach those 2 claws I could barely see them with a mirror under the light.

small screw driver wrapped in tape?

that might allow you to push the claws loose

It seems to me that it has to either slide forward, or come out straight down.

Same here... they were able to tint my whole back windshield with one piece and without removing the light... ask your shop before they start to make sure they can do it.

yeah, like mentioned above.. brake light doesn't need to be removed.. i specifically mentioned to the shop that i don't want them to cut the film around it.. they looked at it for a little bit and said no problem..

My tint guy is great. I've been using him many times over the last 15 years. I just wanted to make his life a little easier. Does $250 for the back and all 4 doors sound reasonable?

No. I tried to pry them out (straight down) with a small bent screw driver, but they didn't move. I'm afraid to break them, it's a two-weeks old car. Maybe someone out there knows how to get those claws out.

Finally figured out how to get the stupid light off. The instructions in the manual are completely wrong. If you ever need to do it here it is:

Pull the front side (closer to the seat) of the upper shell straight up. You can helpit by prying the two (lower and upper) halves apart with with a knife. It easily pops out. Then slide the upper shell of the light about 1/2 inch forward, toward the seat, to release those claws. Then disconnect the wire plug and that's it.
