Default 2006 gs300 awd - the right price?

As you can see from my other post, i am looking to buy a used gs300 awd. the one i'm looking at has approx. 44k miles, and is equipped with levinson and navigation.

is 25,000 an acceptable price for the car? it is being sold by a small dealership down the street, so it's not cpo or anything like that.

what would be a good price, and waht would be an amazing price?

i'm in the dc area.

thanks.

Hi Niteflite

KBB is showing 29,195 based off of the options you provided.

Personally I think it can come down a bit, and you might be able to negotiate considering the times.

When I bought my car which is the exact same as the one you are looking at, it was 56K, no ML, everything else was the same, and I paid 22,500. This was in October of 08. I can't imagine because of the ML package, and approx. 12K miles less that the pricing would be a difference of almost $6700.

I would definitely see if the dealer will budge on the pricing. If not, continue shopping around. For people who are shopping these days, you just have to be patient and do your homework, but you will find some decent deals in all sectors of the world.

Good luck

I think that's a fair price. Unless you want to play hardball with the dealer. You could do better if you want to take more time and effort to shop around, but if you want "THAT" car then it's a fair price.

ok, so give me your opinions on this:

a 2006 AWD. blue. one owner, trade in. Nav, no ML. no rear shade, but heated/cooled seats. super nice rims. exterior in avg to good condition (not mint). 38k miles. non lexus dealer wants 25,900 + fees making it 27,000. should i bargain for 26 OTD?

ALSO, i want to take this to a mechanic for an inspection. do i take it to lexus for $220 for a comprehensive inspection, or my independent mechanic who once worked for lexus before starting his own shop. he happens to own a white gs as well. i plan on paying him around $40.

FINALLY, what's your opinion on buying a car that may be discontinued (from what i'm reading here)? will resale value be lower compared to a model that will continue to be manufactured, such as a bmw 5 or even acura RL. i plan on having this until it hits at least 100k miles or more...

so this is the one i've been eying. yes, i know i know it's a 300 and not 350. but 350s go for a good 5g more than a 300. that's a fairly big diff for me....

i bought an 06 gs300awd in january for 22k from sheehy lexus. it has every option available for the v6 (ML and nav as well). it did have 70k miles, however. 25k sounds good for the mileage you are looking at, though you may want to ask an "out the door' price of 25 or 26. it will save you the usual tax, tags and title costs. love the car; will by the 350 in a year or two.

i travel 55mi each way to work, and i very rarely hear any rattles. rough road will cause any car to creak, but the ride is great on normal roads. the loudest thing i hear is the poopoo dulop runflats. i did have the rear windsheild creak a lot during the spring, but with the constant temps now it seems to have stoped. i'll have that looked at in the fall if it starts happening again. no complaints. we'll see once the wheels and suspension arrive if anything pops up.

aren't the rattles and creaks covered by warranty? i was told they were when i once called lexus service. i guess you have to be within the warranty period, though in most cases, huh.

i'm noticing a lot more 2006 gs300s on the market now. perhaps due to leases ending? seeing a lot of them with an average listing/internet price of 27,000. that's except for lexus cpo, which is usually 29 to 31.

i bought the extended warrenty to 100k, so i'm covered. again, there are no rattles during normal driving. i work in DC, so when i say it rattles over rough road, it really is rough road which would cause any vehicle to rattle; it did for my 4runner as well. the rear windshield is the only concern i have in that dept. the prices you list sound right, though i have not checked since i bought mine. i looked for quite a long time before i found the one i bought, so if you have the patience you can find a good deal. i actually just started calling dealerships to see if they had anything not listed on the website, and fell into the one i bought. dealers may sell a lot cheaper if you happen to catch the car right after trade in, before they have certified which they 'say' costs upwards of 3k. i think if you have decided that this is the car you want, you can find it in your 25k out the door price range if you are dilligent and do the propper research. it will just take a bit of time. if i see anything, i'll shoot you a pm.

seriously. i have 87k on mine, and she still looks and runs great. if you take care, these cars should last you well over 200k. my 4runner had 205k when i traded it in, and that was only because of an accident repair that the shop f'd up. if they had fixed it correctly, i probably would have driven it past 300k.

IXI - how do you like your PS override kit? worth $350? i was thinking of doing the mod myself and saving the $$.

love it. the only reason i got it was to override the dvd. i never use the navi override since with the 06's you can manually override it though the menu button.

its pretty easy to install. took me about 30-45 mins. hardest part for me was pulling out the whole navi unit. there are tabs you have to grab to pull it out and i had a hell of a time getting a good grab to pull it out.
