My story now has a nice twist. I'll start with the details, I was first looking for either an '08 GS350 or an '09 IS350 (as the price is almost the same) After searching, I decided to call Lexus Santa Monica and talked to a guy named Scott Allen, He was very straight forward and told me he'll sell me a car at invoice and if the color choice is not there, he'll gladly bring one in AT THE SAME PRICE which is INVOICE price, he also mentioned that they are aggressively selling the '09 GS350's too, their finance manager emailed me some #'s and decided to go with the GS350 instead of the IS350 as the difference of payment is only $80/month. I drove 40+ miles on the weekend to see him, drove the car, liked it enough to sit down with him and play with the #'s. He told me "i don't care about the price, I just want to sell by volume, it's only a unit to me". When I told him I want the car at invoice, he sounded shocked, like insulted that why I want to offer invoice? He asked me "so you don't want the dealership to make anything?" somewhat shocked as well that he would ask me that, I told him "you are making money even if you sell the car at invoice." Now, the stories are changing for him, The color I want isn't even in their lot, so he has to do a dealer trade and told me "you have to pay over invoice as we are putting more effort for this deal to happen and someone has to eat the cost." I was getting irritated by this BAIT & SWITCH tactic and he was obviously getting irked too cuz' both my wife & I weren't ok with his terms. After 2 hours, the finance manager finally came out, TOLD US & WHILE WRITING THE NUMBERS ON A BLANK PEICE OF PAPER, "the car's msrp is $49,xxx, I will sell it to you for $46,000, which is invoice + $700, monthly will be $659/month, MF is .00150, I have to make atleast $700 on the car." So looking at the #'s it wasn't bad so we said yes, car will be here in 7-10 days, put a $500 deposit down but never signed anything except for the deposit. Btw, during the process, the office phone kept ringing and Scott was getting so irritated by our deals that he lifted up the handset of the phone, opened the drawer, threw the handset in and closed it. Professional ain't it?

That's why I wasn't too happy with the experience I had but Im getting the color and options I wanted. Guess what? I found out that the invoice of my car is $44,100. I don't know if this is God's way of letting me know but I got a call from NEWPORT LEXUS last monday. Gave them a call yesterday and I was curious what kind of deal im getting, Talked to the manager Phil in internet sales and I straight-fowardly asked him if he'll sell me the car at invoice. He calmly said "the invoice is $44,100, I have to make $700 on top of it, so i'll sell it to you at $44,800" I told him the color I wanted (unfortunately they don't have black sapphire) I picked starfire pearl as my 2nd choice without ML, I told him, if he's sure that he'll sell me the car at $44,800 with the terms I wanted, I'm going there this saturday to pick it up. He said yes, we can do the deal over the phone so we can just sign the papers on saturday and be out of there.

So....Im going with a Starfire pearl '09 GS350 on black with the wooden steering wheel this saturday. Im just happy im not going to give any business to lexus of santa monica, I was having buyer's remorse after so I know I wasn't completely happy with them but with Newport, I know I can sleep soundly at night knowing I made a good deal.

NEVER DEAL WITH SCOTT ALLEN, HE IS A GODDAMN CROOK. I think being a marine vet ****ed him up really good in the head. Bait & Switch my ***. Im just ranting & raving at the same time hahaha At the end of the day, I'm still going to be driving a lexus.

You should really know what the invoice of the car is before you go car shopping, but I am glad everything work out good.

you should've done the research beforehand.

invoice is always around 13% off msrp.

49k msrp, with 46k invoice?? i would've punched that guy in the face for lying to me

I did run it with edmunds & kbb but wasn't sure how close the prices will be. When I found out the invoice of the car, I called up Scott and confronted him about the price and wanted to see his reaction was. Well, he actually got angry and started bashing my source (which was another dealer) that they would just say anything and pull numbers out of the air just to get me to go there instead of him, what a hypocrite. He'll constantly cut you off to get his point across. Funny thing is, im in the service industry too where I deal with people's lives all the time, if he ever needs my help, i'll gladly lie to him too.

Knowing when to walk away from the dealer is one of the top LESSONS in a purchase negotiation. It works for me every time.

its official, i picked up the car 2 hours ago from newport lexus. A nice surprise was the car didnt have the wooden steering option and the best part is that they sold me the car for $44200, just $100 over invoice. Was in and out of the dealership within an hour. Thats the quality and service that you'd expect from a dealership.

I just bought a 2009 gs350 this weekend after 2 months of research!

Mine has smokey granite mica exterior and black interior. It comes with 18 inch summer tire, ML stereo upgrade, power sunshade, fron/rear parking sensors, rain sensing wiper, ventilated seats, parking assist.

All for $50k OTD price! I am so happy and satisfied with the dealership!
