^ here is where it will go just not sure how I want to do it.

either I take off the rain sensor and mount just as you see, no mods needed. or I take it apart and remove the brains and mount it on the other side. This may also take a little modification to allow this to work. This is really the best and only place to hide it for OEM. I could have something made but that takes away from what I wanted to do. I have the Volume mounted but its a tight fit so I have to play around with it a little more. Not many places on this car to install stuff.

I had to go borrow some rims from a local since I was on snow tires still so I didnt even touch it today. They guy I got it from offered to make the volume custom and to fit it where I installed it so Im going to send him pics and see what he says and how much. I will probably play with it more this week first as I am in no rush since none of my parts are in yet.

ah that's one interesting place, good thoughts! but either way that means you are going to lose the rear sensor then coz' it will be blocked off? or you can just take apart the brain and route the rear senor to back of the car

Its just finding the perfect spot for everything now.
I went w/ the cheaper route since the V1 unit is also used in the two other vehicles in the garage when they see the road.

not it will still pick up front/rear and side/side. so long no Metal is blocking it doesnt matter where you have it in the car. They say its best to have it as high as possible and that spot doesnt have anything that takes away from it. I wouldnt install it in there if it wouldnt. I sent them pics to confirm on the location also just to make sure

here is the on/off - volume - mute control partially installed. Not too many places to install any switches in this car. But it will work...

I hear ya that is my thoughts also but she has the SUV and I really dont speed around in it. I was going to get another one for her car but decided just to leave it in this car for now. I hardly drive this car now so this is more of a toy then a need

I had considered that also for both cars and I do like how they did the design for the mirror to hold it. Keeps it nice and clean and out of the way.

but the rear sensor has to be visible in order to pick up the signal. the current location you trying to fit is the part that's in front of the sun glass holder right? if so the rear sensor will be blocked by the sunglass holder / dome light module?

^ yea just the sunglasses holder and I dont use them. Its just plastic. The V1 is a metal case. It will also be out of the case and sitting in the piece of foam you see in the pic. I have always been told that so long there is no metal blocking the view it will pick up. When I had the NSX the guys where doing this and mounting the radar in a black custom box on the middle window in the back to make it look like a 3rd brake light. really no different what I am doing other then taking advantage of the OEM location. I will ask the guy what he says. I have been emailing him through the day today about the rest of the install.

I guess if you take this apart you will see it sits lower then you may think. I could basically take the sun glasses drop down and have a hole in the plastic there (lower portion) to have it sit if I wanted. There isnt anything in its way that would effect the radar signal. Radar, to the best of my knowledge will go through anything but metal in the car. Plastic, glass, ect wont interfere with the signal. I sent him a email to find our for sure. I took those pics for him and he said it was perfect. He is having me move the on/off switch. I will take more pics so everyone can see as I get closer to being done. More work then I thought it would be but once the location is figured out it will be easier for the rest. Really just down to the on/off switch and I may send to him to make it custom since I have gone this far with it now.

umm interesting, i can't be 100% but i think i recall reading it that the radar has to be "exposed" meaning front and rear of the radar has to be able to see through the glasses to catch the radar signals. at least for the laser the sensors can't be visually blocked.

definitely get back to us about that

I shot him an email so I will post back. I think I have a past one where I asked that same questions and I will check.

for regular radar signals (K, X, Ka), his setup should work. the only thing that might pose a problem (as you have mentioned) is the laser. laser sensors definitely can't be visually blocked, i agree.

passnu2:
the amount of customization you have put into the V1, i'm surprised you didn't go with a passport 9500ci radar detector ( https://www.escortradar.com/store/passport-9500ci.html ), which seems to me what you are trying to do - stealth and functionality. you definitely need to take the laser sensors apart from the V1 and have that mounted elsewhere for better detection.

nevertheless, i am impressed with what you're trying to accomplish, good stuff!

oh, so for those 3 bands the sensors don't have to be visible (as long as no metal block)?

i think it should work, because those 3 bands use doppler radar to beam a radio wave at the vehicle. ideally, the sensors for the 3 bands should be located in clear view for optimal performance. the only potential drawback with passnu2's hidden location is that it could possibly shorten the distance required before the detector gives the warning (and hence less time to bring his car to normal speeds).

Hard at work lol...So I can get on a few different sites and some say to mount high and others say to mount in the middle of the windshield. V1 says to mount it high?? Who is right or who do you believe? I dont drive the car much so I am not so worried about it.

I did have the Escort and sold it. Didnt care for it. Red Light Camera feature is pretty nice but I am not in the city of Chicago that much and that is where its best. Sold my V1to get it and I am back with V1 now. This is just an added toy to have and I hope to keep this car for a longer period of time then I normally would have in the past. From all my correspondence with this company they say the location is fine and nothing will limit it. I guess there is one way to find out. One thing I read is that its best to have Laser part low or in the front bumper as that is where they aim the laser at. Maybe I need a laser jammer to install there then??
