Default Just got my 06 GS300 AWD....Few Questions

This is Laura,This is my first Lexus after driving BMWs for years. I like it so far, smoother, more luxurious and more options. I just read that the AWD isn't the best deal, but my luckI guess, I didn't know it matters that much, or does it. I have GS300 with 60K with warranty up to 100K. She is medator red with NAV and all. Now the carfax says she was serviced at 58K. So how can I tell what was done to it? Also, when is my next oil change and maintanance? As far as tires, since I live in AL and don't experience snow or anything, is it a good idea to change them to regular tires? If so what type? What are major differences between AWD vs. 2WD? I guess I am learning and the next one, years from now will be better. Should I go to the dealer and just ask them to do another maintainance or how does it work? The car drives great for now.

Congrats, let me guess, you wanted a car thats a bit more reliabile than the BMW. AWD is not needed in AL, but it will help in rain storms and handling. Your dealer should know what has been done to the car thru the computer, Next service should be 5000 miles from 58K, which is 63000 miles. Do you have all season tire on there now, if so leave them there, unless they are worn. Michelin pilot are good tires if you never see snow. 2WD means engine power goes to only the rear 2 wheels and AWD means it powers all 4 wheels.

go to lexus.com and register your vehicle. It will show you everything that has been done to it if the previous owner took it a Lexus dealer everytime to have it serviced. The Lexus dealerships can also pull up the vehicle history at the dealership by the cars VIN #.

Thanks for the lay term reply. My tires are good actually, so I'll leave them on till they wear out. I understand difference between 2 and 4WD but is there any difference power wise? Also, I guess the AWD is not as popular, and I heard it has 2 differentials? Is it still a RWD? Is it also a cheaper car then the GS300 2 WD?

Welcome! We need more females who are driving a GS. I too have a 2006 GS AWD. Love it.
If you go to your Lexus dealership, they can print out everything they did to your car. But if it was serviced at someplace other than Lexus, it won't show.

Default Let me hijack the thread a little

First of all let me answer questions I know. I have the same car. a AWD is $2,000 more then the RWD car. The AWD has better handling for example in the real world: Tonight I ran over something in the road not sure what it was but if I could have seen it I could have swirved (SP), and missed it, if I turned the wheel too much it could throw more power to a wheel to correct for what I did wrong. The AWD gives you 2 mpg less gas according to the books. I did average 29.3mpg traveling from dallas to shreveport tonight though. Now what exactly is the big thing between the driver and passenger seat under the radio. Whatever it is sticks out so that when I have to hit the gas I have to turn my foot at an angle to get to it. Another thing is I turned down getting a 2006 acura RL (sh-awd) for this car. What did I get in the GS 300 awd that I didn't get in the RL anyone know? I know the radio in the RL is a lot better and more room for a actual passenger (someone 6' 3" 325 or whatever my uncle weighs just isn't going to fit in the GS). What does the gs 300 offer that the RL didn't?

Roots are roots...

Honda = Acura
Toyota = Lexus

IMO the only ones DONT fall under this are:
BMW
Benz
Ect...

The RL is a very nice car. I had a few to drive for sometime. My buddy owns the Acura and Lexus dealer. I know many dont care for Acura on here but the RL is a great car all around.
