Default 20" Vossens will trip my AWD???Prof opinions please...

Got a couple of estimates for my 06 GS300 AWD. One guy said that staggered should be fine with no rubbing or issues. Another guy said if they are staggered will trip off my AWD. Either the guy is trying to push me to buy the non-staggered, or he really knows about it. Can I get a professional opinion on this matter. Thanks.

I have a GS300 AWD 06 on 20" Staggered with no problems. Just as long as you have the correct tire size. When I first put them on, I had the tires up front way to small, and that did trip out the AWD system But once I got the tire size closer to stock, everything went back to normal.

you can but you'll never get the tires 100% correct. its going to wear the center diff. if the tires are off. imo its not worth it. you can play it safe by getting the same width but different offsets.

what you mean? Now it will be more complicated when it comes to different offsets because I will not know how they will look now. Also, I am a lady and won't be able to understand many of these things.

My OEM now is 17" wheels. I don't have the new wheels or tires yet. I am trying to figure out what will best fit and be safe. I know the ride will be little more rough, but I want to try to make it as less rough as possible.

Current Set up

F: 245/35/20
R: 275/30/20

I am aware that my front is a little oversize. Planning to change it once I decide on what I want to do suspension wise (Coilover or DF210). Currently running NF210.

If you are close in tire diameter you should be fine. Many on here, all kinds of models, have proven this to work. Many other make AWD cars are running staggered set ups also and have for many years.

You will never have the same rolling or tire diameter even if you go with the same tire. there will always be some variance. Any AWD has to be able to tolerate the variance. I would go staggered if it was me...

What rims are you considering??

The vossens 082 Black finished. But isn't $3000 a little high? They gonna put the sensors for me as well. If they don't it will be $2600. I am still fearing the rub on turns and bumps and the AWD trip off. What does that mean anyways? What can happen?

I haven't owned any Vossen rims but they are a vendor on here and they have some great looking stuff. You get what you pay for IMO. 3k for 20" rims is about right for a quality rim. If you trip the AWD it will be due to not running the same spec tires.

for instance I am running the following on 20" rims"
Front: 255/30-20 / Rim=20x9
Rear: 295/25-20 / Rim= 20x10.5

These offer the same rolling diameter front to rear. I have RWD so its not important for anything other then the look in the front. Nothing will be harmed if I run a smaller or larger tire on my car. On yours you want to make sure its as close as possible.

so here are the specs on mine:
Fronts:
Sidewall: 3.0"
Radius: 13.0"
Diameter: 26"
Circumference: 81.8"

Rear:
Sidewall: 2.9"
Radius: 12.9"
Diameter: 25.8"
Circumference: 81.1"

Most important is the rolling diameter. Hope this helps out

Edit: My set up would work with your car

3k does seem a little high, not too much, but you can find them cheaper. yes these are good wheels, but they arent forged. 3k for cast wheels is a little steep imo.

I personally just went with a staggered set up. see my sig for details, and i have awd. i dont know what u mean by "trip" the awd, from what i have heard, if the rolling diameter isnt very close, it will wear the differential out faster.

Great info. But why is it that someone else gave me different specs? That is why I am cofused. I still don't understand what you mean by rolling diameter. If I go to any shop for example and ask them to put on some wheels and tires, is it a definite that they will put on the right specs and measurements? Is there different specs for staggered 20" and non-stag ones? Is it the tire size you are referring to?

if its a good shop they will give you the correct stuff.

rolling diameter is refering to the overall diameter of the wheel including the tire. you want to try to keep the same overall diameter as close as possible so it wont throw off anything such as your speedometer. as the rim size increases, the sidewall of the wheel decreases in order to allow the bigger rim while keeping the same overall diameter. take a look at a tire calculator and you'll see what i mean.

as far as specs go, what exactly are you looking for? staggered wheels are going to have a different width in the rear than the front ie 20x8.5" for the front and 20x10 in the rear.

Thanks for being patience. For example, I like the 20" vossens 082, I need them staggered. I have 17" factory rims. One individual told me go with245-30-20 and 285-25-20,another told me to be careful with the offset.
