I've been thinking of upgrading my daily driver (G35 Sport Sedan) and go back to owning all Lexus in my home. I've been looking at the GS350's and i've searched, not many magazines that i've seen done any test on the GS350 RWD. I saw that R&T had a test numbers on GS350 AWD which is 5.3 0-60 and 13.8 or 13.9 in the qtr. I assume that the 350 RWD would be quicker than the AWD 350??

After combing the lots and dealer websites - i saw a few dealers selling a GS460 almost 10K off sticker. and also with the 460 there has been no real test on this car besides Lexus stating its performance numbers... 5.4 to 60 and 13.8 or 13.9 qtr mile. which is close or the same as magazine test of a GS350 but not the slower lexus numbers for the 350..

My question for those who has driven both the GS460 and GS350.. which is quicker ; faster, really? Right now, i'm still leaning towards the 350 because it has better gas mileage..Even though i prefer V'8s and more torque.

Its a hard decision when GS350's are around low 50's and you see a 460 for the same price?!?! (Tough decision)

I'm making an appointment today to drive both - I'll inform my results..

First of all, go test drive the 2 cars, dont take our word for it, your expecatation may be different from ours. I test drove the 2 cars about a year ago. 0-60 is about the same, but the 460 is quicker after that. On paper, the 350 does 0-60 in just under 6 sec., while the 460 is about 0.1 sec faster which means nothing in the real world. The V6 is louder under load. Gas mileage wise, theya re pretty close, 1 to 2 MPG different.

first of all, you need to compare performance data from the same source, in this case if you want to compare via Lexus.com which is 5.4 vs 5.8 secs, GS460/GS350 respectively.

yes, GS460 is faster and pulls harder (off the line might feel the same), but where it really will shine is past 60 mph where GS350 will have to try to catch up.

but once again, there are MORE to the 460 than just few more ponies..

and i am hitting 25.4mpg on the 460 now ... i am mighty impressed, it gets better and better the more i drive.

if i were to do it again, I'll still take the 460 any day..

you should also test drive the 450h if it's available. i guarantee you'll like the performance of the hybrid!

I've driven every GS and the 350/460 "feels" similar in "butt" feel initially but as speed progresses the 460 simply outpowers the 350. I also love the sound of the 460 (I just love V-8 sound) compared to the 350. Lexus also claims the 460 is faster than the 350. Neither is a slouch.

I've also driven them at the track and well, stock, they are not track cars lol. The 460 felt more ponderous and the 8 speed auto seemed to be shifting too much for me. The 350 was lighter on its feet and more fun (relatively speaking).

COMPLETELY WRONG. when i had my ls460l, with mixed driving, i got 24.5mpg. when driving on pure highway, i had 28+mpg before. and some people on ls460 forum has hit over 30 with pics to prove.

the v8 from lexus with the 8 speed is as efficient as one can imagine

back to performance, i agree the 460 will pull harder specially after 60mph, that's where the v8 tq comes in, always

I drove to San Antonio last week at got 27.1 mpg (did the math, not using the dash display). I sometimes get 15.9mpg City if I'm driving like a mad man. Most of the time I average 18-19mph City and 24-26 hwy.

to be honest i have to say yes. the 06 gs300 doesn't make much sense at all. it is underpowered, and gas mileage is not really any better than the 350. i never understand why they have the gs300 (in japan they came straight out with gs350)

obviously they realized the GS300 was an epic fail so it was replaced rather quickly.. lol

The GS 300 was there initially so the GS 350 would keep people in Lexus showrooms. Lexus wants to keep engines evolving and not have them unchanged for years. For example the GS 300 engine from 93-05 was basically THE SAME outside of VVTi added in 2001.

Dont know about you guys, but I think Lexus need to drop the whole GS350/GS460 thing. I mean, both of these cars are pretty much the same. What they need to do is replace GS350 with GS460 (lower the price a bit) and instead of GS460 they should add a GS-F . Those who wish to have a V6 can buy an ES.

I own a 2008 GS 460 and here's my take....

-Driving from L.A. to Palm Springs two weeks ago (with no traffic), I averaged 28 mpg for 200 miles @75 mph. If you drive conservatively, you can easily eclipse 25 mpg.

-I love the sound of a V8 over a V6 any day. I've also added the Tenabe Medallion Touring Exhaust so it's slightly more throaty than the stock exhaust.

-If you love to tune your car and add an aftermarket Forced Air Intake system, go with the 350 because they don't make a lot of parts designed for the 460. To date, I haven't been able to find an intake kit from Injen, K&N or any of the other usual suspects.

-I did find the torque on the V8 to be more efficient for quick bursts of acceleration at highway speed. This was on my test drive so I didn't really test it over and over, but from my recollection, the V8 just felt stronger at around 60 mph accelerating to 75 mph.

Not going to happen. We don't have much choice actually. For instance in America, the 5 has 4 engine choices (528, 535, 550, M5) and the diesel might come. In Europe, they have I believe nearly 10 engine choices. In the future, engines will be smaller and more fuel efficient. Smaller engines are providing nearly the same performance as larger ones (just look at the 350/460 arguement here) and with CAFE standards increasing, well, higher performance sedans will be harder to find.

Don't post much on this forum as I have a 2GS but wanted get in on the conversation. I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I think Lexus should have given the GS460 more power than the LS460, which is what they traditionally did or just dropped a somewhat detuned version of the 5 liter V8 that's in the IS-F and called it the GS500. It would have been nice to have a GS making 400 hp and 400 lb/tq from factory.

I agree Darknight, I though that Lexus would up the horse power in the GS460 this year. I was very surprise they didnt. All they needed was a new dual intake and a new exhaust, a few changes here and there, and the GS460 can produce as much HP as the LS.
